We drove down in the morning and back after the game. The players did some homework, had some time to socialize and saw a little bit more of Oregon. It looks like you have a 2:00 game and could do it in one day if you wanted as well. I can understand your frustration, but it is not that bad. If you really dont want to go talk to the coach. I do feel for Medford and wonder why they would want to come to Portland and not California. Quite honestly, I wonder why anyone wants to play with all the dysfunction everywhere.

You sound extremely selfish. Your comment pretty much explains our problem in our state with soccer and our problem as a country.....me, me, me...and what are you going to do for me.....don't inconvenience me.......
please step outside of your "me" box and understand something with the "WE" group...just for a minute....
Oregon soccer is in the process of uniting the entire state. DEAL WITH IT! I guarantee there are three players in Medford that are better than your child, PERIOD!
If your child can't find a developmental experience in traveling to Medford then you and his coach have failed. I would suggest that your child not go to Medford and that your coach should pull up "B" players to develop that weekend. It is what we do here in our club. Your child can take that weekend off, go to church and do one of those extracurricular activities you were talking about....it's real simple, but Elite people like you think of these situations as "problems"
I'm guessing you voted for Obama, you still think he is doing a great job and that you think Universal Healthcare is a good thing......
I would also guess that you are for Abortion but against the Death Penalty.
you probably think that "guns kill people" and not he person holding the gun.
you probably think that the Prius that you are driving is keeping the world temp from rising.
WAKE THE F__K UP!
Are you serious with this post? I state the reasons I do not want my player going to Medford and I am now a selfish Obama voting democrat? hahahah that's seriously funny.
First, and I personally would never bring politics onto this forum, but since you were using politics to insult me Ill bite. I like a few things about Medford and one of them is they in large part vote conservative. Yes, I also am a conservative. The idea of making people spend their resources to go to Medford because they feel bad for them is really a liberal view isnt it? If indeed you are a conservative, I can tell you with people like you around insulting/cursing others views rather than talking about them, we may never win another election.
Thats all I will say about that as this venue seems inappropriate.
The word selfish is one of those words used to try to (for lack of a better word) bully people into doing something you want them to do, or spend money they want to save. I also could say it would be "selfish" of my player to insist on spending family money going to Medford when his sister has a trip to seattle we have to pay for too. This is a hypothetical, but the idea is you can use that word anyway you like and selfish is all about perspective. I am not mad my kids team may be going, more power to them! My player is staying home and if their are consequences to this choice we will take them. At my kids age there really are no developmental opportunities in Medford, and your right there may be a few players better than him. So what? It Happens everywhere we go.
My only question for you is, how is alienating the metro area but bringging in Southern Oregon united anything? Where was this outrage 3 years ago?
On a last note. I NEVER said it was a problem. Our coach may very well bring a few B players to fill the roster. That's good. We have players not go to events for a variety of reasons. It is no big deal.

We wont send our player and it will be fine. There will be others that wont go either. I am not sure why the OPL gets the rap for this. No one on my now OYSA team wants to make the trip either! It is really a non issue. I just get frustrated with the people that say my player should feel compeled to go for whatever reason. Thats just silly.
Because you and your son committed to the team at tryouts, that is why. Finish your season and make a decision at tryouts.

I am not the poster, but "pathetic" or not I agree with the idea that my 17 year old does not need to spend 2 days on a trip to Medford to beat up on a team that is not prepared to play his team's level of play because of politics. I call it sportsmanship you call it pathetic. So be it. In addition, it is NOT just "one" trip to Medford. It is also Vegas, San Diego, Northern California, Arizona, Seattle, and probably two other places before our season is over. We do this to FIND TEAMS TO PLAY US. WE DO NOT MAKE THEM COME TO US. Do not give me this crap about opportunity to bond on the road with his parents, or team......PLEEEASE. How about the time? I do not go on any team trips anymore, but guess what? He has homework and a billion other commitments that he has to get in when he isnt traveling for soccer. We have a church we also like him to visit occasionally. You think I should feel more for the soccer community in Medford? Give me a flipping break. Are they going to pay the hotel and food bill that my club is going to give me? YEAH NO! Do they give a rats ass about soccer here in Portland except they want to play us? Easy answer, NO! At some point as a parent you have to pick and choose, well for us this is one of those times. It might be a good day for my son to give his time to the food bank.
Are you from Medford? Whether you are or not, please stop whining and get off your high horse and think of a better solution for yourself.

Most kids on older teams miss at some time or another for something. This isnt unusual. We have kids miss because they already have commitments and do not need to spend the money on another showcase. I do not blame them. Look at the older rosters they are huge and thats because they need the bodies. Older players are busy people.

Ill whine while I fill the SUV and more if I have to sleepover. The other poster is not whining. I see it as taking action. My kid is a bubble player so I am always worried when we miss. If scheduled we will likely go, but I will be irritated the whole time.
The other guy is teaching his son the easy way out.....let his teammates down because they don't believe in travel
Or...let his team down because I can't afford it....but I can buy a latte at Starbucks every morning

OPL Divisions for winter
Don't see OPL schedules but you can view the divisions with a little effort. OPL site->Clubs->Club Pages and click on a club. Then click on a team listed under Winter 2014 and you can see the teams in the division that team is set up under.

But normal behavior from OPL
