It appears that the bulk of all teams come from these three clubs on the girl's side and from FCP and Crossfire on the boys side. If FCP does leave in the spring it will be a huge hit. On a positive note, we won't travel much.

From this parent's perspective, it would be much better to combine into OYSA and have more teams. I am guessing that THUSC could drop their boys program and play their girls in the FWRL if FCP moves. I am also guessing that if FCP moves their is a high likelihood that Crossfire Oregon will as well.
And how is that different from the Timbers league where the bulk of the teams come from Eastside and Westside? As for OYSA, why bother? Everybody already has US Club cards. Just have the TA stay in OPL.

I don't share you enthusiasm for the new and improved OPL. I am not the only OPL parent that feels this way. I am sorry but I have no problem with including the entire state. It was a ridiculous split to begin with but at the time it did not hurt my child as it was sort of in the favor of local teams. Now the split is looking like crap and it isn't leaning in favor of our club.

The split has nothing to do with "including the entire state". It has everything to do with not agreeing with how GW wants to run youth soccer. Nothing more, nothing less.

And what is OPL about? Seriously there is no point now and many of the parents on this board go on and on about having to travel to play mediocre games. I call BS on it as well but I think it is time to bury the hatchet and fix the issues rather than digging in. The good thing with OYSA is that GW isn't the only voice.

I am also an OPL parent and think the leagues are 'looking like crap' at this point.
There's more to it than who's "in" and who's "out" (including the entire state). I'm not involved in the conversations so can't speak to the details.
As a parent of players on NPL teams I want to see this resolved so my kids teams don't degrade to rec level.

GW may not be the "official" voice but he is the de facto head of this new Timbers league. It's his way or the highway (or maybe that's "it's his way AND the highway", not sure :) ).

If they're "degrading to rec level", it's not the fault of the league they play in. Look to the coaching for that one.

I disagree with you there. You can be a very solid coach and even have a decent team and the level of competition can drag you down. Not all of the OPL kids will be traveling for 36 out of state games and will need a local league.

Did you have a problem when he set up the OPL? Or, more likely you are pissed off at him for abandoning the dream.

Nope. Problem is that he's splitting up youth soccer when he doesn't need to. He couldn't be the supreme ruler of the OPL so he took his ball and ran away...

As an OPL parent, I don't think the first split should have happened anyway. To me the OPL was the split not the other way around. I would rather get back under one umbrella.

Where was everybody this past year? I only saw 1 umbrella.

Youth soccer in Oregon has not been united since the formation of the OPL which was conceived by several including GW. Apparently when the Timbers got their MLS bid things changed. With the involvement of the Timbers their is a need to cover the state and GW for whatever reason has agreed. BTW: He wasn't the only one to create the OPL and to split youth soccer. It was a combined effort and he could not have split it on his own. The reason he has the ability to put it back is because of the Timbers affiliation.

I can't help but wonder why all OPL supporters (remember I am a OPL parent but simply due to club affiliation) were really happy when the original split happened and now are crying foul. I cried foul the first time and feel like a wrong is finally being righted. It is just my opinion though.

The problem is that the same wolves are guarding the hen house. Breaking the league apart for a second time only shows how manipulative these people are.

That is one way to look at it

I tend to view it as putting it back together. Sorry I just am not a fan of the original split.
