Sorry, but Oregon is a small market for High Level Soccer Players.

Most states don't have players on that list. If it makes you feel better, Steven Evans would have been a senior had he not gone into the MLS. He most likely would have made the list. Most of the guys on that list won't make into the MLS either. It doesn't say anything negative about them.

I was watching Bayern Munich a couple days ago and there was not one single player from Oregon on that team. Huh. Says a lot about the quality of soccer in Oregon.

I was on the phone the whole time with an international operator trying to get a comment for this post from the Bayern general manager, but at press time he had not returned my phone call.

It's just sad. Why even bother? Seriously. What's the point? I'm pulling my daughter from her club effective immediately and moving to a serious soccer country that won't let me down. Or maybe we'll just do ballet. I haven't decided.

              also

Home Grown Players do not show on the list, since they are not eligible for the draft. Therefore any Oregon Home Grown players of any worth would not be on the list.

You are absolutely right about this. Even when players with the ability to play at the pro level come around, it is not every year. OR doesn't have a history of producing players like that.

There aren't any that would show up on that list.

ESU's famed B. Richards the Timbers First Homegrown player was waived/cut early this week.

ESU's Evans is still under contract for year #2 but without a prayer of seeing action with Porter as Coach. He was the Timbers 2nd Homegrown player.

It apprears the Homegrown effort for the Timbers is not quite ready to work in the MLS yet. Give it time.

Calling Richards and Evans homegrown players is technically correct but still a bit of stretch since both of them were out of youth soccer before the MLS version of the Timbers existed. Evans is a poor fit with Porter's style of play. He's good enough to play in the league in the right environment.

GW politics and influence created the 'home grown' label for both Richards and Evans.Neither should of been thrust into this level via a 'backdoor' effort by then Homer GW.So now B. Richards is out of Soccer or good and Evans is quickly going to follow the same path.It was a nice P.R. stunt to promote the ESU kids from our tiny market. Mr. Porter has a great idea of what is needed to perform at this level and unlike GW he holds no belief in either of these guys. With no body of work or experience to rest on, Evans may have to look overseas or in the USL minor leagues to at least prove he is worthy of playing professional soccer..tik..tok...tik..tok.
