Did anyone observe the tryouts for the West 2000 girls? I was surprised to see that the numbers were low. There were, at best, 30 girls total trying out between the 3 days. Janine Sparza, the Director, told me they were going to select 25 girls in the pool. If that is the case, I'm questioning the quality of the players. There were about 12 to 15 really talented players and the rest need more time to develop. Concerned that this may be a money-making opportunity instead of a scenario where there is a unique, competitive environment. One draw is that that coaching staff for this age group is top notch with Chris Thoms and Tina Ellertson. Good training. Any thoughts on this?

I need to make a correction to my post. I meant 2002 girls, not 2000 girls. In the body of my post I put 2000, but I meant 2002. -
At 2002 it's just 16 practice sessions anyways so doesn't matter how many they take. Unless one of the 30 is really not cut out for soccer, I'd be surprised if they didn't take $400 from each of them...Originally posted by Unregistered View PostComment

When did we lower our standards so much that Chris Thoms became a top notch coach? It must be Chris writing this post. Janine and Chris have completely different coaching styles and disagree a lot. My is a huge fan of Janine and Chris is harmless. I do like that they both push my kid. Not too thrilled about having Tina as one of the coaches. From last year when my dd's team played them and hearing more about her all about herself and not about the kids, id hope we get more of Janine.Comment

Try decaf bro. I have experience's with all three coaches and believe your opinions say more about you then them. Bad people usually don't make it to this level in coaching kids. All three of these people are in the coaching gig for right reason. Great group of coaches. Those 25 kids are fortunate and will get better at soccer. If my DD makes the 2001 RTC, I am going with its a great program led by tremendous coaching talent and certainly worth $400. She may even have a shot at the national team, thanks to our Thorn's coaching staff. If my DD does not make the 2001 RTC, I am going with it was a waste of money anyway, my DD was passed over for bigger booting players, she would rather balance out more than one sport than just be focused on soccer, our team plays at a higher level than the RTC, and we are really Seattle Reign fans and don't want to be part of the Thorns organization, much less the Timbers. My ego is covered both ways.Comment
