    Opl doa?

It's pretty common knowledge that there is going to be an OYSA (aka Timbers) league and an OPL league in winter at the high school level next year.

OYSA= Everyone with Timbers in their name.
OPL= Everyone with THUSC FC and Crossfire in their name.

You could argue that the OYSA league is going to finally start sending more good teams than not to IV Regionals each year if this is true (horray) BUT on the girls side the OPL league consistently has the three best teams in the state- THUSC, FC and Crossfire- at least at the older ages..

If you had a kid who played for "the big three who dont wear red" would you support playing the same other two teams about a gazillion times in league then having the worlds shortest playoff for a State Cup that 90 percent of the state no longer is playing in? Do you push your club to rejoin OYSA?

Is the OPL dead as we know it? Could we support a OPL vs OYSA playoff for the "real" state title?

If you were in the group that does play in "red" do you support playing the same crappy teams over and over again? Really it is the same question both ways? The league is split in half, what do you mean 90%. The way that this has gone down is super scummy and I hope the three Nike clubs find their own way and DO not go back. Lets face it league play in Oregon by U16 is dumb anyway. Usually there are only 4 teams that compete with each other anyway. So in theory we lost one an age group. I WOULD support a OYSA Verses OPL state title, but it would not work as the championship is "club or Youth soccer"

And really, at this age, who cares about league? It's all about college showcases and getting the girls seen by coaches. Sure, if you win league you play in a good tournament, but if you don't win league, can't you just pay-to-play?

Heard the OPL premier teams may join in with NoCal. That would be amazing!

And on the girls side, it will be OPL clubs that get ECNL (FC and Crossfire OR)

You all realize that this whole OYSA Timbers thing is because OYSA can no longer pay an ED. They went to the Timbers to ask them to take over the management of the organization as they no longer could afford to run the organization. Who really know what the final outcome of this situation will be? What we do know that nothing will change for the fall season. The changes will be felt come this winter high school season and the spring season. The OPC has severed ties with the Timbers is all we really know at this time. We will have to see what happens come winter and spring.

If you would have played in FWRL last year, you could have played against NorCal and SoCal. And don't know if it was amazing, but it was quite fun.

So let me get this right...The OPL parents who originally left OYSA because they didn't want to play meaningless games in Medford, or Bend, are now going to be happy to travel to Sacramento and get their tails kicked?

I just don't see that option lasting very long. I guess it doesn't have to, it only has to last until after players have signed up. Once they are signed up OPL can drop the affiliation, because players are locked in.

nothing like the good old bait and switch...

The premier oregon teams have done quite well in California and yes I'd much rather travel to California for a tough game then Medford for an easy one

Seattle is closer then Medford and the games will be much better.

You have bad information. Explaining why the break happened is long and lengthy, and certainly more complex than your message. You could probably go back to some old threads and find the information and really inform yourself so you do not sound so stupid. (Sorry I wont call you any more names) BUT REALLY...

As far as the travel piece goes that was for U14 AND BELOW in league play. The truth is no body wants to travel to medford to play a bad team when they can stay home and play a better team. It was hard to even fill rosters to go to Medford. In addition, most people thought it was pretty dumb to drag your 10 year old out of bed to get to a game in Medford at noon. The OPC agreed.

The demand from Premier teams at U15 and above is NOT to focus on league play but to focus on college exposure and higher levels of play. This requires trips North and South. By this age kids should be capable of traveling without Mommy and Daddy. (If a player does not want to travel they do not have to.) Despite what people say our teams fair well in both areas. Variety makes players better.

I welcome travel for friendlies or an extra tournament. I do not care if we play Copa teams ever again. This is not a knock on them as, my guess is strong well supported Copa teams do not care if they play an OPL team again either.

So what now? Who do you think will end up traveling to Medford?

This is my take: The loser in this will be both the TA affiliated teams and also the clubs wearing a Swoosh.

USYS Championship path - I do know since ECNL has grown it has diminished the strength of the teams that play USYS Championship. Eastside WA wins Far West Regional and then National Championship, but they can't even advance out of their pool in Surf and they aren't even the best in their own State (maybe 4th best team in WA). That should tell you the quality of teams playing in this path.

OPL - With OPL comes NWCL and that is certainly one of the tougher events in the NW and the winner of this comes an automatic entry into Surf. For the last 3 years my neighbor (TA parent) has been talking about an all-star team going to Surf and all he has gotten are empty promises. The winner of OPL advances to the National Premier League Championship which includes clubs such as PDA, SLSG, South Bay, DeAnza, Davis Legacy, and ... I know everyone has their opinion, but I do think OPL has more to offer, at least on the girls side.

Again, all teams lose by not having one unified Premier League

Thank You for this post I agree with you on all counts.

However, I believe there is no incentive for the remaining OPL teams to move back. At the end of the day they really hold more cards (For the girls especially). If the TA thinks the NIKE clubs will fall in line and go back with them they are arrogant. (They should just look at their own ODP program.) At the end of the day, I think this split will benefit my own kid because her season will probably include more travel.
