I disagree with the previous poster in that I do feel that you are an idiot and not just a nut case.

This is the same if a priest, boy scout leader, or teacher is accused of something similar.

The people who know them really don't want to believe it until the details spill out. None of the real details are out so why the rush to pass judgement on him?
Fair enough. If people don't want to pass judgement on him, that is each person's decision.

I guess I just can't help but feel for children of child abuse and wish there was more concern for the potential harm that may have been inflicted than concern that someone needs to be found guilty by a jury before even recognizing there is a 12 year old victim involved here.

I guess I should just be happy that the potential threat to our children is behind bars until a jury decides all this. Then after the plea (which they all seem to plea) maybe the focus can be more on the harm caused to the girl than if it is fair to pass judgement on Joseph Christopher Leonetti. Because right now it seems to be all about him and Eastside Timbers Soccer Club.

"Him" includes a wife with terminal cancer and a daughter who is 12 or 13 who happens to be very good friends with the victim. The kid is going to lose her mom soon and potentially her dad and probably her friend.

Not trying to protect nor do I feel sorry for Joey. I feel for the victim, but I also feel for Joey's wife and daughter.

For everybody's sake I hope he is innocent, but again you are probably right.

I was in the wrong for not considering the family in this situation. This sex abuse case is turning into a real tragedy. I got so caught up into thinking that no one seems to care the impact this has on children that are abused (life changing impact in many cases) that I didn't consider the impact this has on the family.

This whole situation makes me want to throw up (physically) . . . I actually can't sleep because of this (not like that has any relevance given what is going on with two young girls lives).

Focus should be on the Eastside Timbers. This is the 3rd time this has happened there. This club clearly does not have adequate policies in place and is not properly monitoring their coaches. 3 times is too many and every parent should question if they should send their child back there.

The problem with PDX and your state for that matter is that it is run by the liberal mass....liberal ideals..we see this more and more each year as the area become even more infested with Libtards.

I am a staunch conservative and think your comment above is completely idiodic and makes you and the people you are trying to associate with look idiodic. It doesn't provide any value and is baseless. Blaming this on political beliefs is just moronic.

Same with FC 3rd coach in 3 years.

My guess is that it wasn't made by some conservative but by someone trying to stir the pot. Regardless, I agree with you.

Explain what it is you think FC should have done in this case regarding a coach who last coached there several years ago? Remember the FC people have known him since he was in high school. Is it a big cover up? Did they miss something? What is it?

I did not write the post about FC. I am not sure FC could have done anything. I think poster is just pointing out that it hasnt just been the Timbers dealing with this. I do think it is curious that this coach left around the same time that Bartlett was arrested

Couldn't you also throw the Timbers into this? A previous offender also did work with that organization.

I get so tired of this sort of thing. You can run backgorun checks all you want, but when you meet someone can you tell if they will do this sort of thing? in 90% of the cases everyone is shocked to find out. And although background checks keep people who are already caught from being hired, they can't keep those who haven't been caught yet.

I agree. The background checks do little to stop new predators or those who have not been convicted. However, we have seen in almost every case that it AWAYS comes out that someone observed some behavior in these coaches that showed poor judgement at one time or another. Wasn't there a recent coach that was arrested that had facebook connections to girls? And that it had made some of the girls uncomfortable? There are tons of these examples. People have to be brave and be willing to say something. Much of a predators success is based on the cowardice around them.

The victim's father is a police officer.

If anyone can sniff out these things it should be the police just to demonstrate how difficult these things are to uncover.

I am sure there are idiots out there who want to blame all of the clubs that have worked with Joey at one time or another or want to say soccer is out of control.
