Just like a lot of things in life.

Because there is only one kid every 4 or 5 years whose parents are stupid enough to drive 3-4 hours one way for practice. I laugh at the family that it doing that now. If she made the national team pool, it seems like fcp was doing a decent job of training her down here. My bet is that she will develop less since there is no way she will be making that many practices up in Seattle.

More is easy to judge. How do you know it is better?

Does anyone really drive all the way to Seattle for practices 3-4x/wk? She must be a Discovery player? If not, that is crazy.

In Oregon it is a mix of talent levels in encl. So are only doing git because dad can afford it.
did you have to go to college to figure that one out?

By the horrendous writing and the lack of money, I would hasten to say no, not college educated. Probably a Westside coach hoping his better players don't do ECNL so he so he still has a job.

If you have a good travel team that wants to stay together then the players will be fine not to do ecnl. They won't save much money but they'll be happy and probably just as well off soccer-wise.

Except some will be too young and they'll lose a lot of games.

Cut? No one got cut from ECNL. They took anyone and everyone who showed up. They even asked a number of the rec players who showed up if they had any more teammates who wanted to join.

I was talking about good birth year travel teams.

As far as a current good team staying together and just playing up, I agree. Those teams will no longer be competitive. Winning isn't everything but the good players will want to play in the top division of the best leagues, want to be able to compete well in NWCL & FWRL, want to be able to compete well in the top division of tournaments, want to be able to win State Cup and compete well in Regionals, want to be able to compete well vs out of state teams at home and out of state, want to be able to compete well at college showcases.

If it's already a low level team and none of the kids on the team care about being competitive and just want to stay together to have fun than I totally understand that. Or, if it is a stand alone team and there are no better options for any of the players, I can see them staying together and becoming much less competitive because there isn't much else they can do.

As it stands, I think many non-ecnl clubs will still be able to form good birth year teams and have them travel. It is still a good alternative to ECNL.

Might want to check on that. Lots of girls tried out and didn't make the cut. Yours included. There was no competition from Thorns Academy this year as the Academy opted for rec-only players.

why can't girls playing ECNL be happy?

What we're seeing in G01 is that most of the top talent has been sucked out of OYSA and into ECNL. What's left are a bunch of mediocre teams that are dominated by one team that didn't lose any players to ECNL. Any top players that stayed in OYSA are not finding much competition, and the teams that are left aren't strong enough to compete in FWRL, NWCL, etc. The best they can hope for is to win the watered down state cup and then go 0-3 at Regionals.

Of course ECNL teams can be happy. Just pointing out that good non-ECNL teams can be happy too.
