Travel, Lodging, rental vans and Food

add up very quickly.

With at least 10 to 15 roadtrips including showcase events each year.

Just one average trip to San Diego for academy games.

35 player airfares roundtrip
3-4 coaches airfare round trip.
20 rooms for at least 2 nights.
Meals at around 5- 7 of them for 35 players,
2 to 4 rental vans + gas. + misc

40 people air fare..40 x $375=15k to 17K Air fare
20 rooms x $200= 4k to 6k Room
40 people food x $50-$100=2k to 4k food
3 12 passenger Vans x $200 to $300 + gas= $1000est

+ misc costs. Tolls, ice, drinks etc..

In the ball park of $20K to 30K depending on Airfare, Vans & hotel costs.

Let's say 25K for 1 average trip x 10 to 15 trips a year.

That's $250K a year just for travel divided by 35 players.
That' in the ball park of $8 to 10K just in travel per head.

Referee's cost money--probably more than your average club referee, that's just for USSDA games. Referees for all the friendlies cost money as well.

It's adds up.

The "that type of money" post was perhaps a little overstated. The infrastructure is already in place - they train and play at the Timbers facility. That costs the club very little in additional overhead. They might treat it differently in their own accounting, but the facility was going to be there whether they had an academy team or not. The additional cost is the coaches and travel/lodging/food. It's not millions.

The Academy teams did well considering it was their first year. The staff now has a better idea of the way things work. Expect the next level from the teams this year.

I suspect the U18 will be a good team. John Bain will be reunited with many of his old players. More drama will be expected. In Dallas, we may get a preview of how good these players could be.

For the record, the teams did well for their first year. Give people a chance to work out kinks.

I hope they do a better job of communicating with parents. It would have been nice to have some closure. They are still kids and some end of the year party would have been nice. The parents would have sprung for it.

Exactly. Anyone wh comes on a site like this and anonymously bashes people they don't even know should rethink who they are to their core. It's one thing to express an opinion about someone's public work, it's another to drag their loved ones into it. Get a life.

I am sure many many DA players have already committed. With MS and AS actively promoting the players with their connections I am sure they are all going to college on scholarships.

I started to hear about incoming seniors who are committed too, but none of them are TA players.
