    No he made it

No my son made it and right now he isn't in the playoffs because the Timebers hired some real winners to kick off the program.

The Timbers DA has switched Oregon recruiting focus from OPL State Cup winners and those teams advanceing to US Youth Soccer regions to the Timber DA. Coaches know JB and the WSM not so much the Smiths and the no playoffs records.

Looking at this years class of seniors the Timbers DA didn't have a great year, likely becuase no one wants players from a program not in the playoffs. The DA is all talk, for a program not charging the players but money coming from OPL players fees both teams should be in the playoffs.

Funny thing is the DA has hurt players. One, not nearly enough of the Oregon players moving on to college from the DA, two colleges are just focusing on the USDA since the work is already done from them. Go to the showcase watch the best teams. Go to US Youth Soccer for the areas without DA's and you get a great recruiting list. The small schools sit in the office with their hands under their legs and just see what applies

Now days if you get in to the DA at 14/13 good, if not save a lot of money, play at Thelo, Hillsboro and just apply to a D3 or NAIA school.

This has not been our experience. No DA and plenty of looks. I know others on our team and teams we've played are having similar experiences. DA would certainly make it easier, but it isn't the only way.

        Playoff free fall

What falls faster? A rock or the Timbers DA from the playoff race.

Who is to blame? Coaches on this one. Can't blame the players, although the Timbers DA sfaff will try to do so. There are 80 teams in the DA, one would expect a program with this many resources would make the playoffs. However, we have seen this before with GW teams it is all about saving ones job and being in total control.

As we see with CP once GW is removed from the process or at least limited the Timbers win.

I'm no defender of the DA but this post is nonsense. The 18s aren't going to make the playoffs and that's been the case for quite some time. The 16s on the other hand, are right on the wildcard cut off line. They "fell" this weekend to one spot out without playing a game. Who are you blaming that on Mr. Critical? The coaches? The 16s need to win their last game to improve their wildcard chances and I for one hope that they do.

GW's poor record and longevity prove that he isn't going anywhere. It isn't about performance with him. He clearly knows the right people.

This is why the Timbers Alliance isn't improving soccer in Oregon. All of these clubs continue with the same DOCs, same coaches, and same programs. Nothing has changed. This rebranding isn't going to change a thing. It is nothing but a money grab by a few people.

Yes but the U-16's only have one game left, other in the same place have 3 and 4 games left. Not looking good.

The other team also plays the best team in the academy and two other teams with substantially better records than them in its last six games. They lose those games then they will drop. There are a couple of teams ahead of Timbers that could drop and at least one behind them that could rise. That's why they need to win.

MS is too busy banging soccer moms to make the playoffs.

My prediction is that the parents of the kids who don't make the team will be on this thread bitching about how the coaches don't know what they are doing.

Some kids will try out. Some kids won't try out.

This program is to benefit the Portland Timbers first, not your kid. Even the English programs focus on the player first. When English Academy players are released they are sent to a large combine so other clubs might pick them up. At the end of school age there is even a large combine with American University so they may continue their studies here in the states.
The Timbers just cut you, you are expendable. Basically a piece of garbage that can be discarded at any time based purely on the needs of the organization.
Before you try out for the program be very aware.
                              1. You need to make a yearlong commitment.
                              2. You’re playing time is limited to selection in 26 games, you will be notified the day of the game if you are playing.
Here is there commitment to you
                              1. The term of your stay with the Timbers DA is day to day as we all learned a few weeks ago.
                              2. Coaching is below the DA average with the Smith’s running this program.

Choose this option very carefully. Ask yourself if you would leave GW with your most precious possession, if you say yes get your head examined and pay $100 for the tryouts.
As an Englishman now living in the Pacific NW and being on the periphery of soccer here the guy that wrote this post is spot on.

I was picked up by a pro-acadamy back in england at 14 until 16 then once leaving school was offered aprentaship papers. Played two more years then got career ending injury so took up coaching and playing semi pro and got my UEFA badges all helped out by the club. I wasnt disgarded like a bage of rubbish.
I see all this stuff going on here as a money earner and on a side note Tursi's are making a killing too!!!!!

                                Playoffs

Yep playoff talk once again. The 17/18's way out. 15/16's outside looking in with one game left.

Gavin's boy'z The Smith's, not getting it done? No real question this is their first and hoping last head coaching gig for GW.

Come on GW get it right for change or should we be let CP run this show to. This is for sure. When GW is out of the picture things improve, MLS playoffs are almost for sure.
