    Timbers/OYSA what is up?

This an excerpt from the 2/4/13 OYSA minutes on their website. Anyone know whats up?

Timbers’ Partnership – The Timbers responded to our notice of breach of contract by asserting that, in their view, we are in breach of contract for laying our previous Technical Director off. There is, of course, nothing in the agreement that obligated us to keep our previous Technical Director employed nor that would require them to increase his FTE with them if he were to be let go. There is no legal or rational reason for them to maintain such a position, but they have. They certainly owe us the approximately $23,500 that the contract specifies. They have suggested three remedies and we are considering options at this time.

What would soccer life in Oregon be like if we could just all get along...

Sounds to me like the Timbers didnt pay their bill and are now blaming OYSA for laying off one of their staff members. What does one have to do with the other ?

I heard from (a friend that works for) an ex-vendor of the Timbers that they had ceased services due to failure to remit payment as agreed.

Isolated incidents or a growing trend ?

      Clarification from the January minutes...

Chuck was asked to elaborate about the Timber’s breach of the ODP contract. Chuck said that he felt the program had been successful, but the Timbers have failed to make three payments required under the agreement and currently owed us in excess of $18,000. He stated that if the bills don’t get paid, we would need to sever the agreement and re-assume operational responsibility of ODP.

        Gavin is the problem...again!

Another example of Gavin trying get his own way. Gavin runs the OPL by fear, with Tom A. the only one able or willing to stand up to him, and now he wants to take over the whole of OYSA!
Mike S. is a Good Ole Boy who was not pulling his weight at OYSA. Now OPL members are paying his wages, per Gavin's insistence.

Why have so many clubs in our state joined the Timbers given the incompetent crew in charge? Maybe they are all nice good ole boys, but seriously... what have Mike or Gavin ever done to improve competitive youth soccer in this state. Oh wait, the boys academy. What about the girls and everyone but the select few high school boys in the Timbers academy. Definitely happy that my kid's club has stayed away from the Timbers brand. What a joke.

Not only have they joined, apparently the clubs pay the Timbers to accept them into the "Alliance". It would be nice if the Timbers would just focus their energy on fielding a competitive side, and have a strong academy. I am concerned what happens to the Timbers brand when this whole alliance thing starts unravelling.

If everybody's a Timber, then nobody's a Timber. The brand loses all value if it can't be used to differentiate somehow.

The Timbers are definitely a for profit enterprise. Their substantial influence on Oregon Youth Soccer will create a sea change, especially for the Boys. Time will tell if it is worth it, with success measured in the occasional player who goes from DA to the team, ticket and jersey sales. I doubt they will care much if you aren't deemed special and it is all the non specials who will be paying their way.

Okay..you are remiss in stating, "Gavin runs the OPL by fear, with Tom A. the only one able or willing to stand up to him..."

Not true as others have spoken out ahead of TA. Perhaps TA wants you and forum readers to believe this?

None of the five clubs in the Timbers Alliance cut a check to the Timbers....you need to get your facts straight. Now...in your liberal mind you might think so but lets be honest....your hands are always in someone else's pocket.....

You may be correct about the checks to the Timbers, I haven't any first hand knowledge. However, your comment about liberals makes it clear that you unable to hold a coherent thought for more than a brief moment. Consequently, I must assume your position on payments to be pure BS. Give it a rest, liberals will take the country forward in the 21st century, not back to the Dark Ages of conservatives. Happy now?

Forward, or back, to the Dark Ages. What's the difference?

The OPL is cutting the Timbers a check, so all OPL clubs are paying them. I hope everyone is happy with the service the Timbers are providing everyone in the OPL...

Wrong. OPL members come from OPL clubs. The OPL itself is a separate entity with its own bills to pay. OPL money comes from the leagues and USCS State Cups. OPL clubs do not pay the Timbers directly or indirectly.

A little disingenous. Who pays the league fees to OPL? Primarily OPL clubs
