Actually…..all that matter is if the Thorns have money to continue. Clock is ticking. My guess is by September they are filing bankruptcy

Sure. Thorns are part of Peregrine, which is in no danger of going bankrupt.

Given that the Timbers/Thorns, until recently, were running much of OYSA, that's funny.

But OYSA doesn't have any fields to rent, nor is in charge of that. Clubs, if they don't have their own complex, deal directly with school or parks districts to secure fields. THPRD has long partnered with Peregrine, despite their policy that normally gives priority to nonprofits.

Do thorns still have B teams in OYSA, or are they pure ECNL? If the latter, why would they care about OYSA?

The price needs to come down for it to happen. Besides they have the same people running the organization, they simply shuffled people around. New owners (if it happens) need to clean house to start restoring some credibility with the community.

HA, this is so funny. The Thorns are not going anywhere. MP knows this. The success of the Thorns is they are owned by the Timbers and have a fans. Fans show up to a stadium that would normally be empty and make a ton of money. No one from outside can duplicate the process unless they have a big empty stadium

Timbers don't own Prov Park. City of Portland does.

But hey, 3 of their teams had an ok year on the outside while also complaining of abuse (RJ 09)

You are the perfect reflection of a desperate seller.

                  Wait and see what happens..
Albion has NOTHING left to offer. Just a non profit affiliate for Thorns to run their $ through. Thorns can now bring money in through their non-profit and cycle it into their for profit (not legal). Red flags should be going off

Destroying FC Portland, leaching off of Westside, stealing players, this club is leaving a trail of destruction every where they go.

and winning. Don't forget that. Oh while the Portland Timbers do not own Providence Park they have a long term lease with the lease and have made major improvements.

I don't think their lease is exclusive, even if they are the primary tenant. I'm pretty certain that if the Thorns are sold as a separate entity, that they will NOT be denied access to Prov Park and have to find another venue (which would be a problem, as there is no other venue in Portland capable of handling the sort of crows the Thorns draw; and the nearest that would be big enough would likely be Reser Stadium at OSU). The city owns the field, and I think retains the rights to rent it out to other events, at least on nights where the Timbers aren't using it for a match.

Not true….Thorns Academy is not owned by Peregrine. It was once subsidized by the NWSL when the Development Academy existed, but once that folded the money stopped.
When the TA joined ECNL the only thing Peregrine provided were back office services. Which they charged the club for. Then TA went to Westside Timbers for back office management. That lasted a year. They folded that and merged with FC Portland. That is now over as well.

Peregrine isn’t providing any financial support. Thorns Academy exists only on dues and fundraising.

Like the earlier post states, I agree, they are headed for financial problems based on their model.

The only way to survive is to have as many players paying dues as possible. Thorns Academy has few teams and small numbers. Lots of admin and coaching. This is bound to break at some point.

if anyone disagrees, please give your thoughts on how they can make the current model work? And still pay staff and keep the management of the club moving.

The Thorns families have exceptionally deep pockets. They will be fine. And if you can't afford it, they will be fine with that too.

Thorns Academy are allowed to fundraise at some Thorns home games. I believe they said during an introduction to their ECNL program a couple of weeks ago that they have been able to raise (through various means) about $100k during the year to help offset costs.

The Thorns Academy still receives notable and substantial funding from Peregrine. This combined with some fundraising help offset costs and keep their costs matching or in the case of last season besting NE Elite on total costs.

True. They did raise 100k through fundraising one year and told all the families they would receive 1k off club tuition. Coincidentally, they raised fees by exactly 1k that year. That leads me to believe they are in financial trouble and unethical. They used their non-profit (WSM) to bring the money in and fund their for-profit TA.
