Camas, Wa has some of the very best schools in all of Washington State, and in my humble opinion, probably even better than LO/WL. We moved from Portland to Camas for several reasons but 1st was schools. Camas is < 10 minutes to the Airport and ~ 20 minutes to downtown Portland when there is no traffic. The local soccer club is WSA but has sinced merged with VT, the new club in full force by next tryout. VT is already one of the top clubs in the area and should get stronger with the merger. In some ways, it's nice to be able to be in the Timbers Alliance but also have access to either the OPL or the RCL depending on the quality of the team.

A lot of Oregonians trash on 'Vantucky'. There is no reason for me to get into a debate with them. I think Vancouver is actually a nicer place to live in some parts than much across the river, but to each their own. But even if you disagree, Camas is fantastic and I have yet to hear anyone who has moved to Camas say otherwise.

I wont disagree with you about your schools. There is plenty of test scores that support your statements here. However, limiting yourself to either VT or Eastside (for lack of convenience) is not really a reason to move there.

If the powers at be have their way, the new Interstate bridge toll could be a reason to move back across the river.

In reality, the South end of the Portland area probably offers the most all around you can get. Good schools, easy access, good clubs to choose from if the first doesnt meet your needs.

WOW!!! You people are NUTS!!! The last thing I would worry about when relocating is the local soccer clubs.

Many large cities and their local soccer clubs are bound by geographic boundaries (Texas included).

Oregon and SW Washington are NOT one of those. You can live and play where ever your heart desires (including other states)

Why would you live in LO and go play for THUSC or FC at the U13 age group when LO has a team of comparable quality in your own backyard?

If you can handle the smell, Vancouver or Camas. I wouldn't recommend either. Plus, if you live in Washington and work in Oregon, you will be stuck paying Oregon income tax and Washingtons sales tax.

Beaverton, Bethany area, Lake Oswego/West Linn are great areas. Sherwood, Tigard and such are nice, commute will be terrible. It partially depends on where you work. Having to cross town is not desirable. If you work in high-tech, you will definitely want to live on the West Side.

THUSC and FC Portland are your best bets for quality girls programs.

More and more players are leaving LO and SS to come up to THUSC and FC.

I hear you but at the same time I think I would be nuts to not consider somthing my daughter holds dear to her. When this was first brought up that was her first concern well that along with missing her friends. But when your daughter has aspirations to play soccer through high school, college and one day professionally per words I think I would be doing a disservice to her as a parent for not at least asking, which this is all about.
I'am blessed that I do not have to force her to practice on her own outside her club practices it's just somthing she does, so if she is going to give 100% I would be a fool not do the same.

I REALLY DO APPRECIATE ALL OF EVERYONES INPUT!!! We have no ties at all to Oergon, both our family have resided in Texas and not one has ever moved outside the state. We are looking for somthing new and the scenery in Oergon looks amazing, with lots of parks.
So we are gather information at this time and thank you for everyones answers!!

                    Hello Fellow Texan-
We moved to Oregon from the DFW metroplex (Southlake) in 2005. As it all worked out we ended up on the Eastside. We had many criteria for where we wanted to live and it all fell apart when the house that we thought we were going to purchase in the Lincoln boundary fell through at the last minute and we couldn't find a house big enough fast enough to move into. It is often funny how things work out as it turned out to be perfect for us on the Eastside even though we did not initially consider it.

Now we live in Sandy Oregon and while the high school soccer isn't all that great, our quality of life is very nice. When looking for a home only you and your family know for sure what you are looking for. In our case we were not really wanting to repeat the cookie cutter monster houses that we came from in Texas and we are very happy with our choices. There are many wonderful places on both sides of the river that you can choose from. If you don't want to deal with state income tax you might want to seriously look at the Washington side of the river. We have friends in Camas and Washougal and they love where they live. They have good schools and the soccer is good too.

While Oregon and Washington soccer are very different than DFW soccer, there are many good options to choose from and other than cost which in my opinion is much higher here, you can find whatever your daughter might need. Once you move here you can contact coaches and see if your daughter can get a supplemental look by attending practices. In doing this you can get a feel for your daughter's fit with the specific team. Good luck to you and your daughter!!!

I forgot to add that this is not the DFW metroplex and while commuting across the Portland area can suck during high traffic time, it isn't even remotely close to what you would experience if you were trying to drive from Plano to Southlake during rush hour. Overall, I would pick the place that you like the looks of and the school is what you want it to be and then figure the rest out. My DD has enjoyed her soccer experiences here and she has not been severely handicapped by not living close to THUSC or FC Portland. :)

Flat out lie, players are being trained by their local area clubs then coming together at U15 when winning should start to take priority. The past few years have shown that this model has been very successful for the OSSA club.

I'm not sure how your select league would translate. Does your daughter play in the Classic or the Plano Premier. Many of the clubs mentioned previously have more than 1 team in each age group though. Many clubs(Lake Oswego, FC Portland and THUSC all mentioned above) have a team in the Premier Division. But also have teams in Division 1 or Division 2.
Another poster seemed to think that they knew which teams she could make and which she couldn't. Not sure how they would know that having never seen your daughter play. I assume that you know that sometimes those who post on these sites can be somewhat overzealous about what they think they know. When you move here you should have her attend practice at more than 1 club and just find the one with the best fit for her. Good luck.

Try to not derail this thread. It's been productive thus far.

Perhaps this should be sent to the person that said players were leaving SSC and LO to go to THUSC and FC
