Texan with ?'s about Oregon soccer

My family and I are looking to move to the Portland area and my daughter currently play select soccer but we have some general questions as we begin to plan this journey.

Daughter's birthday is 10/2/99 so does this make her u13 or u14? Cant seem to find that info online.

What is a good city/town or side of Portland we should be looking at? Looking for a suburb area but want to be close to practice fields. We are from the Dallas area and everything is so spread out.

Club recommendations would be great as well!!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Its how ever old your player is on August 1st.

If she is 12 now, she is Under 13 (U13)

For the most part Portland has a wide variety of fields to play on. Most of the high schools all have turf fields and most of the club teams use them. There are several city built (park and rec) turf fields as well.

What part of town will you be working in ?

As your daughter was under the age of 13 on August 1st 2012 she is in the U13 agegroup through the Spring 2014 season. Even though she is now 13 years old.

we too recently relocated and moved to the westside of Portland (Northwest). I would say FC Portland or THUSC are some of the better programs in the west for girls. THUSC has a solid U13 team and one of the best in the Northwest at U14 and a very over strong girls program. FC has a very solid U13 team, but a not so good U14 team. The teams in the SW (Lake Oswego or Southside) are not very good at the younger ages, but at U15 they combine with mulitple clubs to form OSSA.

Good luck with the move it is tough

          what grade?

her grade should determine if she plays u14 or u15 next year. league age she would be a u14 next year. But if i were you, i would look across the river at Clark County both to live and play

If you played select Soccer in Texas than you could make FC Portland's team. THUSC's team isn't much better but it has come alot further than FC's program this year.

I'd say go Lake Oswego. Better than both and will be better as they are merging teams although I don't know if she'd make the team being a select rather than premier.

I will give you the advice our realtor gave us when relocating to the are, "you wouldn't want to tell your friends that you live in Vancouver" With that being said, I would look at the Westside and I believe the stronger girls programs will be FC Portland or THUSC. I agree with one of the posters, if your daughter is U14 then one of their girls teams is one of the strongest teams on the west coast, but if she is U13 then FC Portland or THUSC teams are pretty even.

Are most of the fields open to the public? I live in the Northeast side of Dallas and the good fields(the ones that are green with grass because they get watered) are closed to the public so the fields we choose from arent great, no grass or cracks because of the lack of rainfall. Haha and tried to find one with a net. But we make it work.

When it comes to Club Soccer does it get $$$. Down here we are paying around $2500-$3000
We are looking at Beaverton because thats what keeps coming up on the internet as a nice place for the family. Good schools and so forth. As long as we are on the west side of Portland we are good?

Ok so there is Select and Premier. We have select only but its broken up into Classic league with 3 divisions and then Plano Priemer with 3 divisions with Classic being the top league. How big is the drop off from Select to Premier?

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. I wouldn't focus on where to live based on a youth soccer club's location. The clubs aren't set by geographic boundary like they are some places so you can play for any team you can make. No matter where you live you're going to have to drive.

If schools and a nice place for family is important, then look at Lake Oswego. It's far nicer than the west side suburbs with much better schools. It's not that far from where THUSC, Westside and FC practice. Same with West Linn although it's further away.

I certainly wouldn't rule out the east side. Alameda, Laurelhurst, Eastmoreland are great neighborhoods; some of the best in the city. If you can afford it, the west hills. Grant, Lincoln and Cleveland are all fine public schools.

Agree. DO NOT chose to live somewhere based on the club you choose. Pick the best school district. Players can play for any club and you will always find someone to carpool with.

Don't listen to this nosense. Vantucky and Battle Bama are to real nice places for locating. We have us running water and tricity. What we ain't have is the train thing that allows all those criminals to gets themselves around.

Your best public schools are going to be in West Linn & Lake Oswego. The Beaverton and Hillsboro schools are having big problems with class size. It's no big deal to live in LO or WL and drive 20 minutes to THUSC or 25 to where FC practices. OSSA is a good alternative for U15+.

I would add Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville into that list of cities to live in. All three have easy access to the freeways, shopping and recreation.
