    OYSA In or Out

OYSA makes a bold statement they are not renewing with PTFC. Is this really bold? What has the OYSA / PTFC partnership done for youth soccer? Create a stellar academy? Invest in Oregon Youth Soccer? They have done just the opposite in my opinion. I think they have actually gone out of their way to do the opposite. They have traded for international spots, traded for homegrown players spots while our players sit a rot. OYSA did nothing but cash checks.

And yet today OYSA says we are out ! They signed a 10 year contract with PTFC in 2014, why? Who does that,10 years? OYSA sold their souls to the devil to stay in business. Guess what OYSA, you are out too. You lost your pot of gold today.

    OK discuss

The timbers had OYSA over a barrel, if I remember right.

Unless the state switches entirely to us club, which doesn't have state level affiliates, there will need to be a state usys affiliate. If the current OYSA were disbanded, and a new one formed with a new board and officers, what should it look like?

Current one seems to be BM cronies these days, so perhaps not a bad idea.

Looking at the US Club web site it looks like OYSA could be replaced in 8 minutes. If I remember right a red headed monster led a group several years ago and did just that. Then later when it served him because he was employed by PTFC got everyone to move back to OYSA. Holly Heck what has happened over the last 20 years in Oregon soccer.

The problem with US Club is that their business model is essentially based on running off with the cream of the youth soccer market--premier-level youth soccer, where there's a lot of money to be made in thing like private training, travel, and even (in the future) training compensation. US Club has virtually no interest in rec-level soccer, or in select-level soccer (other than as necessary to have reserve or B teams). USYS, for all its faults, sponsors and organizes soccer at all levels of the pyramid, from elite players to rec to TOPSoccer and other programs for players with disabilities, and takes this role seriously.

Of course, why we need three (or more) separate sanctioning bodies all affiliated with US Soccer (the national federation) is a question in itself, but boy howdy, there's a ton of bureaucracy involved.

This isn't true. We have the Washington Premier League. Select level teams.

There has been some recent staff changes at OYSA. Who will be the new Technical Director? With the previous person moving up to Exec Director. Steve Baker who was talking in the media is also done in January.

                            Job description from website:

                            "Summary:
Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Technical Director is responsible for the educational development of clubs, coaches and players in the state of Oregon. Will provide direct support to the Oregon Youth Soccer Association’s member soccer clubs. This position’s goal will be to help develop soccer in Oregon through coaching education, technical aspects of club development, and player development. Promotes and administers State and National coaching courses, as well as State coaching clinics. The Technical Director serves on the ODP committee and keeps apprised of ODP operational decisions."

Man I am gonna call my club and ask for a discount on fees and to not pay OYSA for this. This is for small startup clubs and a boondoggle for ODP for which most clubs don't benefit. I can't see larger clubs needing any help from this role. I want my money back

Hi! Is this Premier United FC? Yes, this is Karen <redacted>, Tommy <redacted>'s mother. I noticed that OYSA has posted a want ad for something called a "technical director", and the position pays a lot of money, and doesn't do anything that is useful for Tommy in his path to a professional career. I've heard that OYSA is partially funded by fees paid by youth clubs like PUFC. Is that correct?

Well, I thought so! The reason I was calling them, is, like I said, Tommy doesn't benefit from OYSA having a technical director. So I would like to deduct my share of his salary from my club dues. No, it won't cost you guys anything. All you have to do is pass the deduction along, and let OYSA know that the parents of one of your players--one of your up-and-coming stars, in fact--doesn't wish to pay for an OYSA technical director, and they are withholding that portion of their club dues that go to the technical director's salary.

No, I'm not crazy, I'm dead serious. I don't care if it's only $50 or even $5, have your accountant figure it out and get back to me.

No need to cut me a check, just send it to Coach <redacted> to cover next Thursday's private training session.

You have a nice day too!
