Not sure why this is posted in a thread about ECNL and GA, but yes the Thorns organization will feel some heat about this. Might get more traction with a separate post.

I’d say it is related. Thorns make it very clear that it is all one club. They start grooming the academy players early. It is an abusive environment from the first team down to their youngest players.

You are entitled to your opinion, but if we are going to start talking abuse in general terms, then all youth soccer clubs are abusive. No one club takes the cake. After a decade here as a parent in the youth club soccer scene, I have stories of equal surprise and red flags from many, many local clubs. Mostly though, the red flags are outlier coaches or outlier situations, and in reality, clubs are typically made up of well meaning people who struggle to make a living in youth soccer and do it for the love of the game and for the kids.

Yeah they do start young, go ask the 2011 pre academy team why they had to forfeit a game a few weeks ago. Keep it classy Thorns

It’s what happens when you have ex pro players that don’t know how to coach kids and washed up coaches.

their younger teams are a joke and a lot of those kids will quit or leave.

            keep screaming, keep screaming.

With this news, how do you put or keep your kid in this program?

Other than the first year of their existence thorns academy literally hire random people and hope they work out. It’s why they couldn’t keep 03s together and 04s were a laughing stock.

Good platform for my kid to get looks for college, consistent training, decent coaching (controversial, I know), and the collective group are fairly talented.

At the expense of your child’s well-being? I have personally witnessed thorns academy coaches verbally abuse players (on numerous occasions). Parents have reported this behavior and it is dismissed by club directors. What are we teaching our kids if we continue to let them play for these people.

It’s because they don’t care and never have.

Uh isn't this why there was a change in leadership, because they do care or respect female players?

Current director (TN) was one of the ones that dismissed reports of abuse. Guess they don’t care as much as you think.
