You mean number 18, right? He is the single best defender on that team and carries the load. He is legit. The rest of the defensive line is meh.

Lol. No, I did not mean 18. Sorry Dad/Mom. 18 is alright, and certainly played well throughout the year. He received the attention, but that is because he was a former TA player and now plays ECNL. I meant #20. I watched 80% of Jesuit games, and that kid was a rock. An absolute anchor. When 18 was dashing up the field to maybe or maybe not get a cross off, 20 was there to stop the counter when 18 had turned the ball over. Face it, not everybody believes hype, and actually watches the game unbiased.

Looks like as soon as the final whistle blows on the high school season, opfc dad and uPDX dad are gonna argue. Stay classy, y'all

Agreed. knowing 18’s obnoxious dad who’s always, always talking on the sidelines I’m sure he’s the one posting about his own kid.

I am not number 18's dad. I do know who he is and he does talk a lot, but I am not him. Unbiased, the kid is really good. In my opinion, the best defender by far on that team. But we all know (at least should know) that defense is the easiest position to play anyways. This ought to get the dad's trying to re-live their HS defensive playing years really pissed off. Ready, set, GO.

That team allowed quite a few goals for a team with “good defense” 10 teams allowed less goals and 3 or 4 tied them with 17 allowed that’s not great defense that’s middle of the pack

They will need to tighten it up for next year without being able to simply out score teams via DP.

OMG...so ridiculous. Easiest position to play, yet first position to blame in a loss. Look at the Timbers, clearly an example of how easy it is to play defense. They lead the league..............

Should really look at level of competition when evaluating that metric. They played 9 of the teams that entered the playoffs, plus 3 of the 4A playoff teams, that included LaSalle and Summit. They had the hardest schedule by far.

Next year will be interesting...by the looks of Varsity outcomes, removing Seniors, and adding JV team success...it looks like Lincoln, Grant and Jesuit next year.

The disrespect given to defenders (and no, it's not the "easiest position to play", if anything fullback is the hardest) has long been a problem in soccer.

Unfortunately that disrespect persists. On HS teams like Jesuit, the entire roster is stacked with high quality club players, and every position in the XI is going to be a very good player. But on schools not able to field a complete roster of A-team studs... there's a lot of good club defenders playing mid or forward, because that's where the coach thinks the "good" players should go.

High school soccer is bad. It's fine to enjoy it, but stop talking about these teams like they're any good.

It's a fun 3-mobth break from soccer where the kids pick up a bunch of bad habits. Let it go.

GK is hardest, then center mid, striker, outside mid, wingers, then defense. Defense is definitely the easiest position on the field to play. You go forward and occasionally with lots of time pass it back to the GK. Decision making skills are very limited. Don't take it so personally mom. Your kid is still important and still a snowflake.

I would never let me kids play keeper

Worst position to play with zero upside

Tell us you don't play soccer without telling us you don't play soccer.

It's generally not about "decision-making"; a forward that loses the ball in the opponents third doesn't generally lead to an opposing goal. A centerback who turns it over in his own defensive third stands an excellent chance of conceding a goal. Good decision-making is MOST important closest to your own net.

Instead, it's about ballhandling skills and finishing. A lot of CBs are basically instructed to pass or clear the ball, and to never try to dribble it anywhere near the feet of an opposing forward. Fullbacks are generally expected to have better ball-handling skills and even make runs, but finishing isn't a premium for that position either. Which is fine--many forwards and mids are lousy at defense, even the ones who aren't too lazy to try--but coaches tend to view one skillset as more valuable than the other, thinking that being a skilled defender is only about hustle.

Would Aloha vs Je$uit have been a better final than Westview vs Je$uit ... similar to last year where Je$uit vs Summit would've been better than West Linn vs Summit?
