This tournament has been around for a long time and always a joy to play in. The end of summer for Oregon and the beginning of fall for Washington

I second this. One game in particular that I watched - I’m surprised there were no serious injuries.

Noticed some of the older refs were simply out of shape and unfit. Would literally stay between the 30 or 40 yard lines, midfield, for most of the match

You people expect too much. Most of these people are just soccer lifers who are providing an opportunity for your kids to play.

Please feel free to join us referees. I know at least one who worked 8 straight games on Saturday. That is 12 hours on the field for those keeping track at home, with temperatures above 90 degrees for large portions of it. I was asked to take on two more when I already was at my limit. I had to say no.

Both things can be true. Some referees are overworked and spread too thin, and some suck.

First of all; why did Mt. Hood feel the need to cheat at a tournament? Inferiority complex with St. Helen's or Rainier?

But seriously folks, no official should work eight matches in a day regardless of fitness level. The issue is very strictly a pay issue; just like the current employment climate. Pay more, get more/better. My 16 y.o. son was a ref for U-littles for a couple years and made good money, but as his playing level took off, he needed a non-weekend job that worked around his schedule. I think the per-game fee environment doesn't work. Someone should look at Part-Time or Full-Time employment options - if it costs more for the clubs, so be it.

The other option would be the European youth approach - a high paid center and club ARs (one from each team) for every youth match. Seems to work well. Sure a couple offside calls are missed, but they are right now anyway.

Definitely know they need more numbers. Some also need to check their attitudes and responses. Threatening players at below U12 on pitch while tournament organizers blame coaches and parents....ridiculous. no accountability. Regardless of numbers you still need to conduct yourself as a respectful human being.

On top of that putting a 14 year old as a center with no sideline on their first match ever is stupid. Shows how inadequate the training is for officials by their own association.

A lot of examples of poor ethical individuals showed their heads at Mt. HOOD Challenge.
Too bad some of these individuals are involved with youth sports at all.

I saw an 11 vs 11 championship match played on a 9 vs 9 field. How’s that possible.
