Also, are even an opfc parent? You could say any team is political with their already established players. Don't worry you're not bursting my bubble. This is real life buddy. That's why this is a tryout. There is no guarantee

There is no tryout at OPFC 09. It is all smoke. Wealthy families..lots of political connections. They should have cut players when LOSC transitioned and they didn't. On top they added players that they shouldn't have added and rejected others better. Why? More connections. This tryout they will add 2 new players max 3 that's it.

Clearly you don't know the history with that team. LOSC 09s dominated Westside and the rest back in the day. OPFC killed that instead of bulding. Westside kept building. Even Cuervos passed them. No they won't add many new players as that would mean cutting present players with political implications. Sorry to burst your bubble. I would suggest your kid has a plan B tryout even if he is a good player.

Lol...."back in the day" you are talking about 7th graders here. They are barely removed from the juice box and orange slices days, so I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in a record against another team in 4th or 5th grade. You are clearly new to this, so do not be surprised by certain clubs being good one year and dropping off the next. Puberty is a HUGE equalizer, and irrational parents are another. Clubs like Cuervos, never sustain a consistent group. Vast turnover from one year to the next, and the players usually cannot get their player cards due to owing fees to the club. Westside, PDX, ADF and OPFC will become the dominant teams in the metro, and there will always be club jumpers. It is dumb, and honestly sets the kids back, but it happens. As to the political piece, it is absolutely 100% true for every team, in ever club. It sucks, but it really is the same everywhere else. And anybody who tells you differently, is lying or just flat out ignorant. Just make sure your kids are having fun and developing, and celebrate the positive aspects of the game with them. It is over before you know it, and the one thing you want is for them to still love the game. Good luck.

You are going to poison your kid on the game, and tear up yourself and your relationship with your kid if you really continue to believe that. Remember, coaches evaluate the talent for THEIR teams. Parents do not. What one coach sees as having value. Another may not. You are the consumer and can leave....however, your kid can also be cut. Find the right situation for your kid. It exists. However, if your kid is on a second team, you are not doing them or yourself any favors by screaming about political considerations. Teach your kid about trying and failing, and then getting back up and working harder. They will thank you later on.

He was the coach of the Westside 07s for a year 19/20 then his dad Marc took over them and he left for wash Timbers and now is back

Steven is Marc's son, and had the WT 05s and 07s a couple years ago. Went to WashT for family reasons, now appears to be coming back.

Cony had the 07s last season, Steven will get them again. Cony will have 08s next year. After three years of John Bain, THAT should be interesting.

John will attempt to rebuild the 06s after JV ran them into the ground then bolted for AZ.

Amazing that WST can't get any new coaches...it is just a carousel. Although...having Steven back to fix the 07B that had such promise is good. Some youth finally to push the other coaches wheelchairs. The parents seemed to be getting tired of Cony's non stop coaching...and little results...especially with the talent they have.

Cony's reputation was built upon having the most talent making him look good. I would counter that Cony is the exact same coach he has always been, the talent is not.

OPFC 09s is all politics..not all the top players make the team..good luck!

That happens at opfc throughout all the age groups- if you are not training with Alex and pdx academy or kissing your head coaches a z z don’t plan on playing or even making the academy team even if your son is better than someone who partakes in the nepotism- it’s exactly why we left and many others have throughout the years- that and there is almost no technical development which is why they constantly struggle at older ages when you can’t just kick it long and outrun people
