Rec and select kids don't need them. When my kid played rec we practiced at the local park down the street and the coach mowed the grass just so we could play. It worked perfectly fine for the minimal amount of time we were there.
The Park Dist job is not to make sure a selected few get scholarships. The Park Districts job is to make sure as many as they possible can get, play soccer and that no person or special person has "Exalted Rights" If you want special rights for the privileged few then move to a country that gives that.
Stop asking for a exclusive special status ride on the public dole for your exclusive private benefit. Seriously I hope all comp players get scholarships to the University of their Dreams I just don't want to pay for it while my kids can't play on it!

We need to do a better job period of making recreational activities easily available for kids. It's outrageous that there aren't more public spaces for kids to play and the terrible condition of the school fields. That said, the kids who play recreational soccer deserve access to fields so they can play. That doesn't mean dibs on the best fields or reserved times because those programs aren't willing to pay for the space on a year round basis like the competitive clubs do. But it also doesn't mean that some volunteer should be out with a lawn mower before practice.

Personally I think one benefit of ending WST's exclusive access would mean they'd probably have to use SOME grass fields. Which might just result in THPRD actually improving the conditions of those fields.
The conditions of the grass fields is a "whole other topic" but some of them are absolutely atrocious. One of my colleagues kids play little league baseball I don't know how many times I've heard him just rip THPRD for the lack of maintenance. I think what frustrates the hell out him is not only is he paying taxes on his house to the district but he's paying "extra" for fields access and they don't take that money and set it aside in a separate fund for "extra" maintenance

The taxes argument is a joke.

Do the math and break down the THPRD budget for soccer maintenance and you will see that of the $300 the average home owner pays for the district a pittance goes for the fields. Maaaaaaybe another $2 goes for interest on bonds that could be reasonably attributed to the acquisition of the land but seriously saying that you pay for the "right" to access a public facility is completely nuts.
What access "rights" do you have to any park or school? Are there rules and restrictions? Hell yes there! If you would stop fighting the established rules you would sound more ADULT but you can only whine about the "fairness" while ignoring the reality that both THUSC & WST use the grass fields all over the district when they are in use (see Powerlines & Gutherless).
No one is preventing your spawn from trying out for the "approved" teams but you insist on allowing an open use policy that does not exist in any city in the country with facilities of this quality. Why do you think that is????????
The horse is dead stop beating it and join the fight for MORE fields not less usage!

Get a grip and check back in with real world pal!
I've never seen a larger group on whining weasels than you and the rest of the WST mafia
"Oh don't take away our special for us only privileged ride"
"Oh don't make us pay what the turf fields actually cost to use."
"Oh if you let more kids play it will Dilute our club-We'll suck even more than we currently do"
"oh Let us hold some turf fields in reserve in case we have a problem"
"Oh we've got to save Oregon soccer by destroying the OYSA because if we don't get our way 100% of time the world will end"
Seriously the same crap from you time after time.

Don't play poker cause your bluff BS is very weak!
OPEN USE POLICY -- HELL NO we can't have that! Imagine if THPRD had a system that didnt give your "spawn" special privileges You'd be advocating rioting in the streets.
I will however agree with you that we need more fields so at least on that we have some common ground.
We also need to make more efficient use of the assets we have and this again is where THPRD has failed miserably IMHO!
Buying a multimillion dollar building & giving a sweetheart deal to the Timbers ??? 7-10 million could have bought a nice soccer center for the whole frickin community. We can do better!

You are actually closer than you realize to those you keep fighting with. Both "sides" would say yes to more fields. The difference is, until there is more fields you think a privileged few should be the chosen and everyone else is S.O.L.
As to the person that keeps saying use a park, mow the lawn yourself...... You do realize that all of the parks are under the control of THPRD don't you? This debate is not about whatever neck of the woods you grew up in or now reside in, it is about THPRD. I guarantee you if you show up with a lawnmower to a THPRD park, the park police will be all over you and boot you out.

Your kid has access to the turf fields by joining WST or Thusc. Thprd provides a way for your kid to use these facilities. It is only your fault that you choose not to take advantage of it.
