    Why would any American athlete subject themselves to comparative poverty?
    1. For the love of the game

    2. Or play to in Europe with salaried which rival NFL/NBA/MLB. Lots of boys I know look up to Messi, Ronaldo, etc which aren't hurting for cash

I do think as the only major university program in Oregon and one of only two in the entire northwest (UW and OSU -- SU, Gonzaga, UP aren't major universities) they should do better. Since less than 5% of high school age players go on to play in college or beyond 95% of players aren't college material at all.

      PS There aren't that many top D1 programs and second tier is just that--second tier. A lot of decent players may well be better off playing NAIA, DIII or DII at top programs in those divisions. Bottom line is they'll be better off going to school regardless of the level of play.
      Not sure who the top player is this year. It better not be the one from across state lines. More hype than substance. National team players from several years ago always need to be examined.

      I think OSU does a bad job of recruiting some very talented hispanic players. Ironically, U of P does a better job of recruiting local players. Not getting Stevie Evans and about 4 others who play locally is a big mistake rather than spending your whole budget on CA players who are not better.

      See what U of W is doing. They focus on keeping talent in state and then go for big catches with the scholarship money. If you grab people outside the state, you better do better than what OSU does because you deplete the scholarship budget.

      OSU also suffers an inferiority complex to football. The OSU coach seems to apologize for the sport's existence. At U of P, you dont sit in a room full of football picture with the coach talking about losing the program if players get in trouble. My kid even picked up on the lack of confidence.

      Note to Simmons: grow some. stop losing talented players in Oregon. Go outside the state if you have exhausted Oregon. Good players talk about it and the U of W coach is killing you with just simple charisma. NOt hard to say nice things to players.

      Also, your team actually plays better than spring ball. If anyone saw your spring ball, they would wonder if your coaching abilities came from 20 years ago--kick and run. You gave Stanford and UofW some tough games when your forwards decided to start playing--twice in the case of Stanford.

        The player from across the river is the best talent they've got at least that's what i saw when when I watched them play. I don't even think OSU bothered to recruit Evans. Did they take a run at Hurtado, Phillips, Velasco? Don't ever recall OSU taking much interest in Westside. Maybe they did and I just missed it. I've been around the boys side of club soccer for years and i dont recall OSU even making an effort with local players. They've done nothing to create local interest and to promote the idea that playing for the Beavs is something a top local player should aspire to. The UW will get much better now that Clark is there. Crossfire was directing its players away from the program.

          I understand your perspective but have to point out that after spending however many thousands of $'s in club and the other half of your college education getting $33K is a stoooooooopid decision. If ya love the game get a real job and play adult rec!

          As for your other point about Americans making a euro teams all I have to say is wha ha aha hahah ahaha ahahahhahaa! If they have that much talent they will be in one of the other major leagues getting more money and THAT is the point of my posts!

            My point is not to run off OSU as there are several players on the academy talking to him. There is a center defender who is talking to them that could play for any program on the west coast. It is just too bad that it is not last year when they started talking to him. They did keep Mgwanga in state who was at Westside. Maybe Westside coaches look down on them. I don't know. But in terms of the academy, it would not be hard for him to make more of a presence. He was there at tryout. Maybe his staff comes to the games. If so, there is not the buzz that UofW generates. This was before their great run.

            Does anyone out there know why they don't do more. U of P should not beat them for local talent. But it does. In part, U of P makes an effort. Maybe too much FC Portland.

              Even if the Yankee could make an EPL team their minimum is only slightly better at the equivalent of $40,000 US dollars. Again if an American athlete has that many physical gifts they will be far better of using them in the other major sports and making TEN TIMES the money.

              But after 200 headers I shouldn't expect soccer players to be able to do math!

                And how many headers have you taken?

                      For the record...

                      MLB = 162 games (2,962/game)
                      NBA = 82 games (5,775/game)
                      NFL = 16 games (24,421/game)
                      MLS = 34 games (992/game)

                      Seems about right.
