I love soccer tournaments. I love EZ ups and laying in the shade in between games. I love the sounds immediately following the team scoring. I love camaraderie and the sense of community.

It's certainly easier to get to from just about anywhere in the country.
Surf Cup v. US Club Nationals? It depends upon the goal. If it's to get college looks then Surf is better. If the team can win, winning a national championship is better. "We won the national championship" sounds a whole lot better than "we won Surf Cup." Run it by a non-soccer person and see what type of reaction you get. An explanation that the Surf Cup has better competition blah, blah, blah will be returned by that "whatever" look.
Competition is fine at both, but with nationals, my point is, you go to Chicago and a whole other section of the country will not go...like California.
It is a personal preference that depends largely on your kids goals. My daughter is in high school and I can tell you that winning Surf Cup is big.
Topping it all off, Stanford, Boston U, Yale, Harvard, were all at Surf. Please checkout the list of colleges on their web site.
What works for us does not work for everyone.

Last years region IV championship
http://tournaments.usyouthsoccer.org...ships/coaches/
This is a list of the college coaches that attended last years region IV championship. Folks are still registering for this year. Seems like a pretty impressive mix, with several colleges sending multiple coaches.
Just saying...

Depends on where you want to go to school
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostIt's decent but take a look at the Surf Cup college coaches who attended last year. Much better selection.
If a coach is there and they see your child play they will get to see them against better than league or state level competition and that is what they will be making their decision on. Unless your DD or DS is the next Hamm or Donovan and can take over a game and single handedly win the tournament it really does not matter which tourney they are playing in as long as they play well against quality competition. Last years spud cup could not make that claim. Hopefully this year the central location will attract stronger teams that will provide coaches with a more honest evaluation of skills.
Regardless of where you end up going you have to do the prep work to get on the radar and that includes a linkable player profile and direct contacts with the school plus sharing your teams schedule and field locations AND changes.
Good luck to ALL Oregon players in the up coming recruiting season!

You don't gain the respect of a bunch of soccer people by playing at a tournament, you gain it by being a good player. That's why if you want a bunch of coaches to see you Surf is better. And really, you'd rather have the respect of a bunch of soccer people than your 84 year old neighbor?

Would Have to Win First
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostSoccer respect, yes. That is all that was being discussed. I would much rather have my dd's team impress the scouts, coaches, and parents at Surf Cup then to go tell my neighbor who knows nothing about soccer that her team won a "National tournamet" when I know myself it is not a true National tournament.
