At least get your facts straight before you try to rip FC Portland.

    THUSC U14 fees are $1550

    FC Portland fees are $1620

There are usually some different adders for both and it comes out pretty close.

That number you pulled out for OSSA is only for HS, so it is only a 6 month session. HS does not have a club season so you only pay for Winter/Spring season.

U14 fees for both FC and THUSC include the Fall season.

I tried to get the cost for LO, but could not find it on the web site. I have talked to parents at all 3 clubs. The fees are very comparable.

If you are going to compare U14 you need to compare U14 not U15.

That is my point. It does not include Fall season. The THUSC and FC number include the Fall season.

THUSC is $1450.00. The travel costs for other clubs are signifigantly lower than FC. Not that FC travels more but when they do travel it'll cost you an arm and a leg. Maybe even more.

Why? I guess I just don't understand how FC can be THAT much more expensive? I'm really trying to understand the difference. Most tournaments have mandated hotels so we would basically pay the same per room charge. Are they securing each player a separate room? The flights are all basically the same, I mean we either all fly separately or all together. Where is this added expense coming from that makes it 'an arm and a leg'? Sorry I keep asking, I just don't get it.

                Agreed..... the logic is flawed.

FC does require them to fly and stay as a team. But for good reason. If a flight is delayed, and they are all together, maybe they can reschedule it, etc. If everyone is on separate flights, you might just be missing a couple of key players and the coach might not know until right before the game or the parents can't find the field, etc..

From a parental stand point, it's nice just to go and enjoy the games and not have to worry about carting our dd or ds every where. My daughter had a blast down in Phoenix, great experience, like a long weekend slumber party with some soccer mixed in. My wife and I enjoyed a nice dinner and drinks by ourselves on occasion.

                But to each their own.

By the time every thing is all said and done the cost is about the same. You either pay for it all up front or they nickle and dime you. Example would be the fees. The difference between the FC Portland and THUSC fee is $120. However the THUSC kit is $225. I believe the FC Kit is less. By the time every thing is said and done, $120 is not that big of a deal compared to other soccer expenses.

For travel, I think you are correct. The cost is the same. The difference between FC and THUSC is that FC players do not travel with their parents. LO has the same policy. Not sure if your player wants to room with the family, but THUSC players have this option if they want to save some money and the whole family is going.

I think the poster just has a boner for FC Portland and wants to point out how expensive everything is at FC Portland.

That all makes sense at the HS age but not for U11-U13. Parents should be allowed to get their kid to the tournament the cheapest way possible. At that age most parents like to travel with their kid. Many parents can get cheaper flights or even drive to tournaments but they have no choice. Not to mention booking a room for their kid and for themselves.

Most clubs allow the players to stay with the parents to reduce the cost. Out of town trip for FC can add another two hundred dollars.

I have been told that Fc pdx adds an additional 10% to all travel charges. In effect, this becomes an additional fundraiser for the club. I do not know if this is true or not but I have heard this from a number of different people. I do know that less expensive travel options are available from experience.

The fall fee would not be included for OSSA as all of the players play HS. Maybe the person comparing fees is looking at the wrong number or trying to compare a U11-14 fee with a U15-18 fee.

Exactly, that was my point. The person was comparing to different set of numbers which is why OSSA was significantly lower.

Does anyone have the numbers for clubs at the older age groups?
