I don't know that I really agree with that statement about no standout players from Oregon. We know one of the girls from another state who made the team and have trained with her and while she is very good, she was not one of the best players we went up against. If she were in Oregon she would be a top player, but there are players who match her capabilities here. Take a look at the list of players and where they come from. Sure, a bunch are from California (not unexpectedly), but there are some from some unexpected places (Kansas City?).

To me, it means a couple of things:

1 - there are very good soccer players throughout the US

2 - my guess is that everyone of these girls is very, very good, but I bet you would get some debate from people who watch them all of the time as to if they are the best girls (meaning for example that some people from Seattle might think that the girl from there is not better than a other girls who are in Seattle). I am not saying anything nefarious about the selection process but rather that it is more "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

There is one player from Oregon. She was added late. She is a 97.

The National coaches use ODP regionals for recruiting and if you are hurt or only 80% oh well. Oh yeah, there is that traveling scouting thingy too. Your girl needs to be healthy at the right time and if she is playing to many games that might be counter productive.

That's great. Which club/team is she from?

I heard she wasn't added late, but given a "pass" into this camp from her coach. Heard Garet Smith usually is allowed somehow to get a player in every year, since it is at his facility. He got one in last year, and one this year too. No one on the actual invite list who was correctly selected and seen for this camp. While this girl may be a good player, don't know her, I do know people are already wagging tongues about political influences and by-passing the real means these players should be going through to get into this sort of camp. Never good to have players given free passes because they know this person or that person. Fair selection is truly fair selection based on rules. We know a few amazing San Diego players who are Regional Camp selections for 98 and 97 ODP So Cal who did not get invited to this camp, so to have players there already talking about a player or two who were allowed in based on one person they know, it can sour the process.

We know the girl from Washington and she is very good, and also know two of the Southern Cal girls (we moved to Wa. from San Diego). I don't know what Usonian girl you are referring to, I know they have a few good players, I have watched them a lot as they were a team we had considered earlier this season. But reality, none compare to the level of the girls at this camp if I judge them off the girls from San Diego.

This camp list does not come from ODP, but from the US Training Centers newly expanded into these areas. Totally different from ODP. We live close enough to do Oregon ODP, but won't because of the politics, and really are happy to see these areas here start to get the sort of attention and training centers scheduled as we did in San Diego. You don't need to like or do ODP to get seen and noticed, and as long as people stick to the rules and protocols, the recommendation based training centers are a great tool to be seen and noticed. It is strange though that people are saying this one girl allowed in was at the training centers a few times, and obviously was not selected, so was seen but not chosen. And then to have her coach use his influence to by-pass that and get her in?

In the end 36 girls are chosen from this camp for another camp in California. If this girl is so good, we will see if she was just missed from a training center and should indeed have been allowed in based on her coach's name if she is one of the 36.

Ohkay. I just learned who got a free ride in. A bit surprising. Not one of the typical 97 or 98 players you see or hear of standing out. Not a game changer type player. We played with her when she was at OSA if I was informed of the correct player; she is going to be a soph next year but is young, 97. Big stocky girl but not aggressive or skilled. Makes me scratch my head really, you see girls being singled out and appreciated for something strong, like the really fast ones or really skilled ones, even the ultra aggressive or dirty ones. This girl is not any of that. Neat, nice girl but Garrett Smith must be good at seeing what others dont or cant. I saw this thread earlier and instantly thought of a few LOSC girls, or another FC Port girl who is always at the training things for US Club, even a few of the U13 girls from FC Port or THUSC. Who knows, Garrett tends to have faves that make everyone go 'huh', my buddy's daughter plays for Garrett and he apparently selects girls he likes in general, soccer aside, for the training centers and other things.

Maybe she can finally help Garett create some consistency with his team? Girls have trickled off his younger age teams for years now, he is a great college coach but not one who develops skills or knows how to coach girls outside his specific bubble type player. His team is full of talent but never is a real threat to the top teams because of how he does things. It just doesn't work for teams under college age. Surprised Garett has the team again truly. Tom is a better coordinator of this age players really. FC has better too.

Problem with Garrett and Tom is that they have massive egos. Instead of taking a pass on placing someone they do it for their self interest so they can say "look at us we someone on such and such team,.... we are great". At total disservice to the players .
