Whatever happened to Caitin Gabel? They used to attract some good athletes too, but now it seems even long-time Caitin families are moving their athletic kids to Jesuit. No doubt in agreeance with above poster that Jesuit is as good as they are because they attract the best kids, and my guess, all Varsity players are club players...if not all, the majority. Not the case with most public hs teams on a regular basis. Depends on the year.
For Jesuit, they always command the best coaching as they are attracting the best athletes and players. It's somewhat unfair in the grande scheme of how hs athletics are supposed to work, but it is legal and allowed. For many Jesuit players, their hs team is better than their club team or equal to. For most public hs players the opposite is true.

I think Jesuits jamboree this Saturday may have Sherwood in it? That would be a good indicator of both Sherwoods and Jesuits strengths, as I think Sherwood could easily be at least a quarterfinalist at the 6A level.

JHS will be the team to beat, I fail to see how the other schools can compare at all. I think once in a blue moon you see the regular normal public school that happens to end up with a larger than normal number of club players, and they then compete and can beat teams like Jesuit. But otherwise? It's an unfair, but fair in the process really, advantage for private schools known for attracting the better athletes.
Grant was beat like 4 to 0 in the recent Jamboree by Lakeridge HS, and Sherwood (5A) beat Lakeridge (and Sherwood beat Clackamas I heard as well) in the same jamboree...Grant is struggling with losing so many seniors. They either had a weird, horrible first weekend at the Jamboree, or really need a year or two to improve where they were. Of course we all know it's all about what players you get. Totally different over schools like Jesuit IMHO.
I want to see Tualatin play; everyone keeps saying how amazing they are, but last year it really only the "easy" opponents that Tualatin looked "amazing" against, something the sports-writers for the Oregonian don't seem to get.

We (Southridge) played Sherwood over the summer and thought they were very good. We tied them in fact. Granted we were missing a few players each time we played them, but so were they. They have some really good THUSC Ireland players and a freshman from FC Portland who stood out and scored most of their goals in our summer tournament weekend. The Ireland girls were the best players on that team last year too, I watched them in the later games last year and they make that team tough to beat.
High school soccer is all about the luck of the year truly. We feel we have a good, strong, drama-free (so far!) team this year.

......or you could just have mommy do all of your homework for you in the 8th grade, squeak into Jesuit, and then be stupid enough to brag about it to your Jesuit teamates...
....but that's a thread for another time. those things come to a head all on their very own.
jesuit isn't small potatoes academically. it's not the toughest, oes and caitlin give them a run there, but it's up there, and the sweet peas thinking mommy will get them by for 4 years are in (hopefully) for a sweet surprise.

Wonder how mommy dressed to get herself into the entrance exams.. you know they spend the better part of a day at Jesuit taking tests, right? I would think that failing the math exam with all A's on the report cards would raise a few flags?
There are also letters of reference from teachers that are followed up on. And of course an interview between the potential student/their family and a member of the faculty.
Failing or doing very poorly on a class at Jesuit during your season triggers a whole series of protocols- one of the first being parked on the bench until you have a handle on your coursework. Some top students (not just student-athletes) can't handle the coursework and do transfer out. Happened last year.

Philomath - strong, fast offense. May be weaker on defense with loss of some terrific seniors.
Sisters - real studs at center mid, center back, and keeper.
Scappoose - terrific forward. Very tight D.
