Sunset graduated 3 and only one was a starter. Sounds like the Metro League is going to be pretty exciting this year!!

South Salem 3, Jesuit 4 - Wow! Nice job SS! Hang'n with the big girls! Or has Jesuit possibly lost a step?
Union 1, Westview 4 - No surprises here.
Beaverton 4, Marist 3 - I would have expected Beaverton to preform better against a 5A squad.
        Aloha 0, Sprague 1 - Another yawner.
Southridge 2, St. Helens 0 - I would have expected more from Southridge. Aloha beat St. Helens.
Barlow 0, Sunset 2 - Barlow beat Sunset last year, so good job Apollos!

South Salem won their league for the 7th straight time, went 12-2 overall, and lost to Jesuit in the quarters last year and have several of the best seniors in the state (one has committed to USC) so the "hanging with big girls" comment doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Jesuit graduated 7 or 8 last year and play a ton of sophomores this year.

Jesuit went up 2-0 early and it should've been at least double that in the first half. First game lack of finishing showed. South to their credit hung in there and took advantage of Jesuit playing most of their bench and keeping starters out for long parts of the game. Two late goals from South made it exciting at the end but it never should've been.

Why? Don't the results count for overall record? Why would you take a chance like that?

Neat article. Tualatin looks great. I kind of think Westview might be in the top 3 as well. Thoughts?

Southridge rescheduled to play Roseburg who will give them much more of a challenge. They are limited on the number of varsity games they can play so chose Roseburg over St. Helen's

I think Westview will be on top too especially if they have that many returnees. The problem with Tualatin is they don't play anyone of significance (except Tigard) so it makes it a bit difficult to prepare for tougher teams.

My money goes further South. Losing to Jesuit by one when it doesn't matter...just wait until it does matter. Last year Jesuit won both Boys and Girls, maybe this year South will do the same.

So maybe a final four prediction of JHS, SSHS, THS and WHS.

Don't know anything about the girls but S. Eugene doesn't have the talent to compete with schools like Westview on the boys side.

Wow, maybe it is time for a pop quiz on this forum.

What is the Capital of Oregon.

The way discussions go from Portland to Eugene and bypasses salem is embarassing.

For a refresher, South Salem High School won the state championship a couple years back, they have been in the top four the last 5 years.

As the poster you quoted, let me gently correct you that I was talking about South Salem, not South Eugene.
