    US/Brazil

Unbelievable game. As impressive as Brazil is (and they are impressive), it was an interesting contrast in styles and I'm interested in people's thoughts. In virtually every youth women's game, there seem to be a girl or two nowadays who shows off her technical skills while a decent defender waits patiently and ultimately takes the ball away or stops the approach. Lots of standing around by teammates. Hard to argue with a Marta approach, but also hard to argue with nice, crisp ball movement. And you sure as heck can't beat a big heart and drive.

I thought the move by Erika/Brazil Team was one of most unprofessional, bush league moves I've seem in many years. And if you watch the reply of the first PK, Solo moved horizontally between the posts. During the PK's following the extended time the Brazil keeper moved far more forward. I am so glad the USA pulled this out, but something has to be done about the officials. They we down right horrible.

The USA played with heart, guts and never gave up. The announcers said it best; "They have left it all on the field tonight.." Dang right!!

    USA, USA, USA!!!

        Great win

        Time to retire Abby

Brazil is the Italy of women's soccer

Disappointed at the level of play by all the teams at the World Cup, expected much more.

Abby is the leader of the team, why suggest she retire?

She is lumbers around the field like she is running in wet cement. Can't do anything but hope the ball comes to her head. She has played poorly in the tournament even given her goal today. Would the US have needed last minute heroics if she was on the bench? When she is out there they are playing a man down.

The call wasn't for Solo coming off her line but for encroachment from the USA player. She entered the 18 a second too soon. Still a very bad call as you never see that called.

If Brasil ever learns how to play as a team they will be the best. They have the individual skills already and just need to bring some great passing. The Brazilian mens team demonstrates great technical and tactical skills better than any team. If only they would support their women the same. Women's soccer in Brasil is highly underfunded, nothing like here in the US. I have to say that Brasil dominated much of the game having possession way more than the US but could never really put on a good attack.

Great win for the US and such an exciting game to watch. Can't wait for the semi!

I have to agree with you here. Her size still helps here but she isn't going to do much damage unless it's off a cross. US still needs more skilled players who can create something out of nothing.

Problem is that we have no creative players. None of the caliber of Brazil. Brazil scored 3 goals and US 1. If Brazil learn how to play as a team they will be difficult to beat. That can be said for African countries also as they seem to have better athletes than US. Having said that, that was an awesome effort. Go USA

And there isn't much creativity because of the way the players are coached. Too often we hear coaches yelling at every move a player makes, telling them what to do as the ball is on their feet. This does not allow for creativity. Coach at practice and give them the freedom to play during games. Allow for creativity and be ok with it when mistakes are made or they will never try anything. Games are so competitive at such a young age these days that some don't do anything else but go for the win.

You can tout the Brazil team on here all you want. You can put down the US team all you want. The facts are the facts. USA advances, Brazil goes home. On Sunday the best team won.

and if I wrap the flag around me tight enough I won't have to see the problems and issues with soccer development in the US.

Initially, after the game, FIFA stated that the call was made because Solo went off her line. An hour later they changed the official line, saying that the American defender had encroached into the box.

Sounds to me that like they were covering their rear ends after the fact here.

                            Is FIFA run by OYSA?
