Timbers Club merging with FC Portland?

Timbers not much

The Vancouver Timbers are the red headed step child of washington soccer. They have NO TRUE HOME FIELDS( they actually had a grant for turf fields and did not use it, and then lost the grant),and are well below the standards regarding coaching,(really if your a quality coach where would you want to be Vancouver or Portland?) and thier preimer teams spend half the season driving to Seattle for games. The flip side in Oregon, for vancouver kids, much better coaching, less overall travel, Quality fields, ect. The DOC is an absoulte idiot and I mean idiot. Seems like the timbers are always trying to fanagle something. Funiest thing of all is the fact that the timbers staff (coaches and DOC) are always saying OREGON SOCCER SUCKS,AND OREGON HAS NO TALENT BLAH BLAH BLAH ( some of the players and coaches were even seen wearing shirts at some of NWCL finals that said," WERE IS OREGON" )and that my friends is a fact. The best I can figure is they say those things to keep as many players as possible from crossing the river. So merge? probably not. Parents and players looking for something better? more than likely.

Overall they do a good job. They have some very strong players who have actually been with the club for awhile. So, the coaching must not all be bad. I know a lot of parents and youth on Timber teams and I think it is foolish to write them off as a club because someone exercised very bad taste... ie the shirts.

Well said. The comment about the shirts is a complete lie. If it were true, it would have been talked about long before now. The poster is full of lies. The club also did not lose the field grant. This poster should spend more time in school, learning to spell and write, and less time bashing people/clubs and posting flat out lies.

You're joking right? What an ignorant thing to say. First of all, the best players in the world did not grow up playing on plush, pedicured fields. They played in the streets and anywhere there was a ball. Second of all, I have 2 daughters on division 1 OR teams, different age groups. Both have played against Timbers teams in tournaments and NWCL. Both Timbers teams were very good teams and seemed to be well coached. What does that say about OR soccer if (as you say) the Timbers are so terrible, but yet they can compete in the top Division in OR, and many times are better than some of our best OR teams? You just made an ass out of yourself with your moronic statements. And for the record, I was at some of the NWCL semis and finals games and I too saw no such shirts on anyone. Get a life dude!

Division 1 in Oregon is not the top level. Premier is. Timbers have some good teams but not great. The U14G Red team was good but don't seem to be as dominate as they used to be. I heard a U13G Oregon team just tied them.

Good players

Good players come from many places. As in the case with Vancouver players usually NOT ALWAYS they start to migrate to Oregon. Why? I really do not care. If the timbers club is not very good, thats fine by me. They most certainly have their share of talent. In Oregon we love having talented players from Vancouver crossing the river. It just makes our clubs stronger. To the timbers keep up the good work we thank you for the quality players you have sent are way. Keep doing whatever it is you are doing, and keep them headed this direction. P.S. if you are reading this could you please have the kids that you are sending work on possesion a little more it helps them get up to speed a bit quicker.

Ha! Interesting thing about that is that several girls that have left Vancouver from the 96 and 97 age groups (not speaking about the 95 and 94 age groups here) left because they could no longer make the Timbers A teams, or they were no longer in the top half of the A teams (some just want to be "the star" of their teams and sorry to say that wasn't the case). Some of those players may never get "up to speed" because "some" are out for themselves so possession is not in their vocabulary no matter who teaches it.
