OR Rush 97 was OYSA last year and not OPL. I am not even sure if they are considering coming over to OPL or not. I know the OR Rush 98's played OPL this year (not sure if it was Fall or just Spring), so, I guess there is a chance they would move. So, them moving to OPL would be step one. If they do want to move, I am not sure if they met the OPL's tryout restrictions (they may have). If that is not an issue, then I have been told the OPL has a rule prohibiting a team from playing Premier in their first season in the OPL. In otherwords, they would have to play Division 1 this year.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see them play OPL Premier, even if it means my DD's team has to make a couple of extra trips to Bend this year and it would be great if all these details could get worked out to make it happen. I am just don't see it happening.

Out DOC said they do take summer tournaments in to account and final decisions on changes won't be made until late summer. However, he also made it sound like it most cases teams won't move up or down unless there is a compelling case to do so.

Willamette Paragon should NOT move up. True they dominated Division 1, but this is because too many teams were Premier that should not have been. This team did not even advance out of a weak bracket in State Cup.

There should be more teams from Premier that moved down to Division 1. This would make both divisions ultimately more competitive.

But, we know this would never happen. Too many DOC and coach egos would be bruised. Here is what should happen:

        Premier would consist of:
Onyx (still the team to beat)
LO Lightning (improved coaching and picked up some players)
FC Navy (added 3 Onyx players)
Sherwood (don't know, heard they lost numbers but don't know the affect on strength?)
FCSC Nemesis (have they stayed intact?)
        Eastside Timbers
        Oregon Rush

The last spot is tough...but I will go with Gallium since they stayed intact and had a solid Spring and picked up 2 WSM starters. SSC Stealth is a bubble team, did they get any help or same team that struggled last year?

Without a doubt PCU, NEU, and WSM should be dropped to Div 1. None of these teams were competitive enough. PCU was winless in fall and spring. NEU was competitive in the Fall and then nosedived in the spring. WSM supporters (and Cony's ego) would fight this. But they were NOT competitive in fall, spring, or NWCL and lost multiple players.

Now we would have a more competitive Div 1 and Premier. But sadly, this will not happen.
IMO I would put NEU in that last spot over Gallium. So many of the middle of the pack teams NEU, AU, SSC all seemed to be missing players for early parts of the spring, and some teams had an "easier" schedule than others. I'd look at Fall and State Cup as a better gauge.

And what happened to AU? They finished tied for 6th in the fall and made it to the Quarter Finals in Sate Cup? Beating Sherwood in State Cup and in the Fall?

Gallium deserves the spot over NEU. They, along with FC, were the two most improved teams. All the teams were missing players from time to time in the Spring. If Gallium had not been in the hardest bracket for State Cup I believe they would of been quarter finalists as well. They picked up 3 new talented players and have a new coach. Should be fun to watch this year!

Aloha made it to the quarter finals because they were in the easiest bracket. I do give them credit for beating Sherwood but like you mentioned they've done it before. In my opinion the top teams this year will be:

          1. Onyx
          2. FC
          3. LO
          4. Sherwood
          5. Rush
          6. Gallium
          7. Nemesis
          8. Timbers

This is youth sports right? How are policies like this in the interest of the kids? We (The Selection Committee) are going to put you where we want you, make it hard to move, and even harder for new entries. Sounds like serving old men's egos rather than kids.

get off your high horse. the committee will make its decisions based on the best interests of the league itself.

they will look at summer tournaments results and prior history, fall and spring season as well as State Cup and then put teams in their appropriate levels.

if a team is new to the league i am sure they will be taken into account. it was the spring season that new teams were not allowed into the premier level and rightfully so. Starting in the fall is a whole new story.

I thought this was all supposed to change. When OPL's league structure was introduced what was communicated was they would create age groups that would carry forward from year to year, except you would have promotion and relegation. This was of course assuming team makeup was fairly consistent. My understanding was that this hand of god control from the league committee was just necessary in the first year. Any involvement moving forward will unfortunately look political.

you are right, i guess what i was trying to say is if teams are going to promoted or relegated there would be some thought process into it. Not just doing it because some team finished first in Div1.

what people have to take into account is player movement. Some of the lower teams may have received new players and don't deserve to be relegated. Some of the Div1 teams could have lost players and don't deserve to be promoted.

It will all shake out in the end and I think will be fair for all teams involved.
I believe this is still better than 1 tournament to decide your placement
