I would like to see the OR teams take it more seriously. Perhaps there are feelings at stake. While admirable, it hurts the team's chances in this tourney. Most (perhaps all) of the out of state teams don't just take their U14 teams "as is" for this tourney. They have some of their best club kids play up and some of their best club kids play down, so long as they fit within the qualifying age range. (This year, on or after 8/1/96 on the girls side; on or after 1/1/96 on the boys.) They they can bring in 3 guest players. So, for example, a team you would play in this tourney would not necessarily be the same as the team you would play in a regular tourney. That means some "regulars" (as many as 6-8 in some cases) would be left off the normal team for this tourney, but if you want to compete and challenge for the championship, that is what is necessary. OR gets an automatic qualifier every year and I would like to see them take advantage of it.

[QUOTE=Unregistered;547041]Are there any college coaches watching this tourney? One would think so given the level of competition it offers. All the more reason for OR to take advantage of the opportunity to play.[/
For the OR players and teams it's only a chance to have fun on the NIKE campus. College scouts are not watching the OR teams. They are there to watch some of the top talent from around the U.S. They don't watch the locals who are given a "free pass" to the tournament.

It is a moot point since the THUSC team was dominated by the competition and lost every game. Did THUSC even score a goal ?

I am sure they would watch if the Oregon team had a few top 50 prospects.

What NIKE should do is hold a weekend tryout to put the best team together at the age group. Perhaps all the best players would come out OR each top division club team hold a tryout and each team sends 2-3 players. The coaches send their top players to blend with the other top players to have a strong showing from OR.

All losses, 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 2-0 (by eventual winners) Not bad for an OR team. They were not dominated. Non of the games had any nice soccer, but give the girls a break. They did their best against the best U14's in the country. Why beat on the girls? Mercury worked hard and competed. They now have a new coach who I believe will make them stronger. Nike will now add the best girls team in this competition each year. How it should be. It was a good weekend and I enjoyed the competitive soccer and the good officiating.
Are you sure you got the scores right ? I thought one of the game was 3-0.

BTW, this is supposed to be a club tournament.... not an All Star tournament with best players combined to form one team.
