Please begin a new thread. The last 7 posts don't apply to what was an interesting topic. Not that rehashing who's the best club, who recruits and ethics are not exciting topics. Hearing about THUSC and WSM for the billionth time is ennui.

That's the point, neon wasn't the powerhouse until U14 when the odp recruiting began. Don't believe they were even semi-finalists before then. They weren't a "good team that attracted good players".

Geez, I better get my 8 year old kid some private training NOW because, according to your logic, she couldn't possibly get any better after age 13!!

Neon was a very good team prior to the U14 season. Three new players came that year and through additions won 5 USYSA State Cup Championships in a row. Coincidentally, the U14 year is when many decided to try out for ODP. There wasn't any "ODP recruits" coming at that age. Tom may have his faults, but he seems to get the best out of players and teams, as he did with Neon. Players come and go; some due to physical limitations some due to hoping for a better team. Trying to make something out of nothing is silly. Players were always wanting to play for Neon. In later years, players Tom had coached in ODP tried out. They came, mainly from Vancouver. The team changed greatly over a six year period of time, just like players change over the same amount of time. Ireland, coming from Southside, still seems to have the vast majority of players as when they came to THUSC. Pretty rare. Just check out FC Portland Sapphire and the large number of former Southside Strikers that came as a group. Teams change, often for the better. Didn't your kid get a chance to play for Neon?

            Some FACTS to consider

FC might be the most successful all around club right now.

I think Bain is a great guy but not anymore great than the other DOCs. When it comes to behavior from Cony he does tend to look the other way.
Westside boys program is terrific. FC PDX does well, too. Westside girls program, not very good, but improving. THUSC girls, doing great, boys, pretty lacking. How about your statement that FC PDX girls are doing well? Let's look at one item that infers just how well they are doing. State Cup through OYSA years 2008,2009,and 2010 for U12-U18 and this year through OPL have resulting in the following winners:

THUSC 10, LOSC 5 (included OSSA this year), and just 2 for FC PDX, Oregon Rush (did not do OPL this year), Southside and Westside each.

State Cup is not the only measure, but it's a pretty good one over a four year period. Results do mean something. FC PDX girls program not getting it done like they used to in the good old days.

WSM only has 2 good girls teams. I wouldn't say that's improving. After try-outs the U13G, U12G, and U11G barely had enough players to form teams.

I agree, not improving, just had some ambitious people early on with the current U13. That is the only reason they have a group at all at that age.

How many state titles did WSM girls win? Thusc? FC ? SSC? LO? Hmmmm lets see Thusc- 3; WSM -2; FC- 1; SSC-0; LO-1.

Not too bad Westside, especially for a poor girls program.

I believe you are mistaken. I know of one THUSC girls team that has won 3 all by itself and an LO team that has won 2. Please check your facts before you post, you lose credibility when you don't.

My apologies. That wasn't made clear in the original post.

Check you facts. Each team has healthy roster of anywhere from 16 to 18.
This is the continued pattern of thusc criticizing WSM for their girls side. Because, god forbid, if WSM gets a good girls side it would render thusc to be inconsequential. That really scares thusc since it has no boys side.

                            WSM Girls
                            u-11 Premier level

u-19 Every girl was offered a scholarship/roster spot on a college team.

If you ask me, this is a much improved girls side from WSM, but than again, I am just an over involved dad.

Help me out here. How many girls state champions did FC have last year and the year before that? What about OSSA or LO. How many State Champions did THUSC have this year?

Seems to me that WSM girls is right on par. If they had any more state champions on the girl's side WSM would have to start being the best girls club in the state (based on championships).

Typical. Always ASSume it's a thusc person posting a negative comment.
