The ability and opportunity are there, it is the maturity that is lacking.
I like this. I think that one organization would serve the soccer community better than two organizations who split the talent. It isn't like Oregon is big enough population wise to split the talent without hurting the overall goal.... youth soccer.

The organization is a joke, they don't know how to run a meeting, they keep no minutes and they are not even sure which DOC is on what committee. They throw rules around but only enforce the ones they want. Wait until one of these big egos starts to recruit players from another team under their definition of recruiting (in their team handbook). They will start to turn on themselves, its sad soccer suffers for it.
Why just write a post thats filled with lie after lie? It's obvious that you are with OYSA and resent the OPL. You have never been to a meeting before because if you had you would know they keep minutes and are highly organized.

As far as recruiting goes, kids move clubs every year and it has not been a problem.

        Wait a minute

The post is from MJ or his followers who were unhappy with his dismissal. MJ has been trying to find a home for himself and the thusc parents that want to follow him. Lack of administrative procedures still does not excuse the red card behavior. OPL has done a good job overall in it's first year running a league.

Agreed that recruiting needs to be addressed especially clubs offering free rides or placement on first team without tryout. FC and Thusc are guilty of this behavior....and yes I have seen it first hand.

You forgot to mention WSM and ESUFC who offer scholarships to the best players. All clubs do it.

I am not anti or pro recruiting, but recruiting is a fact of life. Making rules about it will not help. Kids should have the right to play for whomever they chose. It sucks for the teams and clubs that lose kids, but what can you do? This is America--land of the free (and deep pockets). Plus, recruiting and compiling talent at the older age levels creates high quality teams that can compete nationally. It makes sense.

              Scholarships

Scholarship based on a financial needs are great. It's the other scholarships or free rides because you are good that are the issue. Probably ruins a player's "amateur status".

I think it is sort of funny that people get so riled up about recruiting. Recruiting often is nothing more than extending an invitation to practice with a team or players wanting to play with others of similiar abilty that they have met through other avenues such as ODP.

It does make sense at the older age groups to acquire the best players you can. Why? So that you can compete at a high level (even higher than NWCL). There simply are not enough good players in Oregon to field more than a couple of teams at each age group that are capable of this level of play.

As for people complaining that players make the first team without even trying out, it is important to note that these are the players that would obviously make it anyway. If they even show up at a tryout you can guarantee that they will be on the list before they touch a ball.
