So if a team like Boca, which won't have tryouts until August, decided to dip their toe in OPL's pool, they would be excluded because of an arbitrary
rule like tryout dates. I guess it doesn't really matter, a team like Boca wouldn't
find any competition in OPL, so why even discuss it.

So where did they find their competition? OYSA? Unlikely. One good team does not make a league or an organization.

The tryout date thing isn't exclusive to the OPL. OYSA always has a first tryout date, too...in the past it's always been the day after State Cup, which is usually Mother's Day. I think the OPL moved away from Mother's Day because it's been a common complaint from families for years to have tryouts start the day after the state cup finals and on Mother's Day.

OYSA has the same rule. All clubs in their program have the same try-out date. OPL moved their try-out date so it did not conflict with Mothers Day (thank you!).

I agree! Thanks OPL for moving tryouts and us a Happy Mother's day and for giving the state cup finalists players, coaches and everyone a little break!

I understand having a starting date for tryouts, I don't understand why all clubs seem to have tryouts at the same time on the same day for a particular age group.

It's like the clubs are making you commit through this tryout process.
