I could name at least 7 Northern girls that got cut that could of easily taken the place of several Willamette, Southern, or Eastern spots on the Eugene roster. It's just sad that they never had a chance to really show themselves because they chose to try out in Portland instead of Eugene.

I agree with there post. There were some Portland girls cut that could of easily made the rosters for any other area.

Last year when our son tried out, we sent applications in for both Portland and Eugene, in the event that he didnt make the Portland cut. Fortunately he made it and we didnt have to go.

It's interesting when there is a quota for other areas. There were plenty of better Portland kids this year and last in the 97's, and this year for the 98's, but because of this new regional process, there is a quota on taking kids from every area, a certain number. I didn't believe it last year, figured some bitter parent made it up, but one of the 98 coaches confirmed it for me at try-outs.
Dissapointing since it will detour many of the kids who should have made it, from Portland, and who get cut due to needing to fill some crappy quota.
That and the fact that both the 97 and 98 pools seem to be dividing themselves into 2 equal teams? I have already heard from over 10 of the better players and their parents who are not happy at all with ODP and how it is going. The better players want to play with one another, and know playing with the bottom percent isn't going to make them better players. Not to mention there is no way Oregon will compete against other states doing this, other states have been together as 97 and 98 teams for way longer, and from looking at event and tournament teams and scoring, are doing one true A team only.
Oregon again is screwing the better players with this regional ODP format.

Im not sure exactly what you talking about here. Are you referring to this year or last ?
Because the 97's werent put into any teams heading to Eugene this year as last. In fact all the girls that came to Eugene were then scrambled onto 4 teams and played each other in a round robin format.
Granted, almost 50% of all the girls there came from the Portland area, half of all the teams had trained with one another for the past 90 days and it really showed on set plays that the Portland group had trained on.
I have to say that Kevin (Portland pool & 97 girls state head coach) and Becca did an excellent job preparing the girls for the gathering in Eugene.
Don't despair. Playing in ODP really matters the most during the high school years, so you've got time and so does your player. Each year the pool of players at tryouts gets smaller, so come back next year and try again. Consider trying out at multiple locations if necessary, or just go to Eugene right off the bat.
