I don't know the answer to your question but the Northern pool looked very talented. They were a lot of fun to watch! Congrats to all the boys!

Not many, really. We had field problems, so we didn't have nearly as many practices as they anticipated.

I agree - My daughter was on the Northern 1 team and I was very impressed with the Willamette keeper - I hope she made it!

She did make it. She plays for FC Willamette Paragon U12 based in Corvallis.

It's just sad that they never had a chance to really show themselves because they chose to try out in Portland instead of Eugene.
You must be that sore losing, FC Portland parent everyone snickers about. Your own team doesn't even want/need you guys. Just accept the fact that everyone BUT you, sees that your daughter didn't belong and that's why she wasn't on any of the teams. We live in something called REALITY, you should try it!

Wow do I feel sorry for your child. You must be "fun" to live with. Your post makes no sense because obviously if the original poster knew that the Portland pool missed lots of shots then their daughter WAS on one of the teams.

I agree with there post. There were some Portland girls cut that could of easily made the rosters for any other area.

Your right, they chose to.............thinking they were as good as the rest of the players in the area. Obviously someone didnt see them as being better.

Actually a lot of parents didn't know that you could try out in other areas. They thought you had to try out in your area. Now that the cats out of the bag on the back door way in I'm sure that a lot more parents will take advantage of that opportunity for there child.

Last year when our son tried out, we sent applications in for both Portland and Eugene, in the event that he didnt make the Portland cut. Fortunately he made it and we didnt have to go.

It's interesting when there is a quota for other areas. There were plenty of better Portland kids this year and last in the 97's, and this year for the 98's, but because of this new regional process, there is a quota on taking kids from every area, a certain number. I didn't believe it last year, figured some bitter parent made it up, but one of the 98 coaches confirmed it for me at try-outs.

Dissapointing since it will detour many of the kids who should have made it, from Portland, and who get cut due to needing to fill some crappy quota.

That and the fact that both the 97 and 98 pools seem to be dividing themselves into 2 equal teams? I have already heard from over 10 of the better players and their parents who are not happy at all with ODP and how it is going. The better players want to play with one another, and know playing with the bottom percent isn't going to make them better players. Not to mention there is no way Oregon will compete against other states doing this, other states have been together as 97 and 98 teams for way longer, and from looking at event and tournament teams and scoring, are doing one true A team only.

Oregon again is screwing the better players with this regional ODP format.

Im not sure exactly what you talking about here. Are you referring to this year or last ?

Because the 97's werent put into any teams heading to Eugene this year as last. In fact all the girls that came to Eugene were then scrambled onto 4 teams and played each other in a round robin format.

Granted, almost 50% of all the girls there came from the Portland area, half of all the teams had trained with one another for the past 90 days and it really showed on set plays that the Portland group had trained on.

I have to say that Kevin (Portland pool & 97 girls state head coach) and Becca did an excellent job preparing the girls for the gathering in Eugene.

Don't despair. Playing in ODP really matters the most during the high school years, so you've got time and so does your player. Each year the pool of players at tryouts gets smaller, so come back next year and try again. Consider trying out at multiple locations if necessary, or just go to Eugene right off the bat.

What parents are you talking about, either you are super popular or they are from all one club? I have a daughter on the '98 team and nothing has been said about two equal teams? In fact, in an email from the coach it was actually said that the top girls will create a team that he feels will compete with the other states. This tells me he will be taking the top to girls to an A team. Quotas? Wow, you are very sad.
