    Myth Buster ODP 98 girls

Great showing of talent today of all athletes representing Oregon in Eugene. For all of the those who believed myth #1, that weaker players go to the Willamette Valley to try out for ODP, your myth was tried and tested twice today.

Evidence witnessed by 100+ people, proved that not only the Willamette Valley were just as strong as the Northern Pool, but in fact beat Northern #1 and tied Northern #2.

So, let us leave this silly, poor sportsmanship behind.

Sit on the sides and root all the girls on, because they all are here for a reason.

Not saying a whole lot, since we all knew the northern pool did not consist of the best players.

I could pick a 98 squad of players not selected and beat them all.

don't they try to split the Northern teams up as even as possible? Thus diluting the Northern pool by splitting them up into two teams.

If the Northern pool was one team of the strongest players 1-18 I think that would be a more fair assment since the other areas are taking their top 1-18 instead of spliting 1-36 into two even teams.

If you think North one and two were split even then you better study the teams a little more. Not even the parents on North one and two thought they were split even!!

Willamette/Northern 1 was dominated by Northern 1 90% of the game. Northern 1 made a defensive mistake by pushing up too far. Willamette kicked the ball and the Willamette defender found herself one on one with the keeper. Keeper actually made the save but the Willamette forward kicked the rebound in. Nothing fancy, just bad defending. Northern pool missed at least 5 shots and had possession 90% of the time.

Great job to Willamette to finish the play. Northern is divided up fairly evenly.

North 1 and 2 controlled both games but made mistakes on defense. They were only challenged a couple times and gave up goals. If Willamette had a mid field the games would have not been so one sided. Infact with Willamette defense and goalie play the games might of been ome sided the other way.

I just LOVE the comment about bad defending! It's always amazes to me how the inability to put one of five shots in the net has no bearing on the loss and yet the defense is blamed because one goal got through. What good is controlling the game 90% of the time if you can't score and complete the job.

Congratulations to the Willamette Valley 98 girls for winning the ODP Championship! Of course, it was all just luck...right?

                    Congrats as well.

I don't think anyone ever said the Northern pool was really strong so I don't see the big deal. I think the only point was that it was easier to make the Willamette pool since there is a limited number of girls trying out there compared to the 100+ Portland area. Its no secret and to be honest trying out in the Willamette area allowed many of those girls to make it to this tournament who otherwise wouldn't of so it was a smart decsion.

I don't think anyone blamed the Northern pool 1 defense for the loss. I believe they said it was a defensive mistake. Mistakes happen everywhere on the field. Both Northern teams dominated the game but couldn't put the ball in the back of the net enough times. That is very typical for soccer. The best team doesn't always win.

Congrats to all the girls and boys who worked hard this weekend. Good luck!

Usonians vs Willamette for the PK shoot out. Usonians need to work on their pks. Only one hit and 3 missed the goal entirely.

Just to set the record straight, while a lot of the Willamette Valley Girls play in Portland, most all of them live in the Willamette Valley.

Sounds like a sideline jockey to me. Those who can, do. Those who can't, talk about the ones who can. Get in the game and maybe you can learn to appreciate what's real, and not hypothetical.

Both northern pools had outstanding talent, no need downplay that. Why would it matter how the teams were split given the outcome of the tournament?

The purpose of the ODP program is PLAYER identity. The purpose of the tourney is allow your player to play in a setting with other players of similar skills so that those with greater ability stand out in the toughest of competitive situations.

Congrats to all the players that participated this weekend and if your player happened to be on a team that prevailed they obviously played as a group better then the others, but "teams" are not be evaluated.
