    Slammers FC Oregon expansion?

On the Washington soccer forum some of us frequent there is a very interesting thread that has been started about Slammers FC and a possible Portland area expansion of that program.

Slammers FC have recently added a Washington affiliate, Puget Sound Slammers.

It's no secret how successful the nationwide Rush program has become across the country, not just over in Bend, after such a short time- what does the future of Oregon soccer look like if Slammers FC come to town?

Would we be likely to see it become a magnet for the best talent, given the long history of success Slammers have in SoCal, and the likelihood of deep pockets/expansion of training facilities/select regionwide Slammers teams it might bring? (Rush puts together select teams from all their affiliates from time to time to play together- assuming a Slammers Select is also in place?)

Slammers FC is very involved in the ECNL- which no teams in Oregon have been invited into. They are year in and year out one of the top 10 club programs in the U.S.
In addition, they have a long tradition of putting kids into colleges and EVERYONE knows the Khoury brothers as top coaches if you're familiar with SoCal soccer.

The original thread mentioned OSSA as a potential club that could merge with Slammers FC but I'm guessing that was just speculation? OSSA is adding OSA and WUSC next year already.

Slammers FC are a Nike Premier club- might that make a difference who they might align with in Oregon? OSSA and FC are Nike teams, THUSC is Adidas.

    Slammers

Oregon Slammers? I too read the post that asked if we could see Oswego Slammers in the future. You can bet the club who makes the Slammers connection will likely pick up some top players.

    Anxiously awaiting the/any news.

I'm no genius, but if I were the Slammers I would be looking at Salem. CFC is going under and that would be a great place to start up a franchise club.

THUSC is a Nike club as well. Westside & Eastside are Adidas affiliates.

How much money do clubs get from Nike or adidas? How does this whole sponsorship work? I am just curious.

Billions. It is part of the Obama bail out cash.

It doesn't matter which club APPLIES and then is ACCEPTED into ECNL, they will be the big winner in Oregon. Not enough room for two programs at this time. Again, no one willing to upset their cohorts in the PDX area... Let's all keep our jobs and not disrupt the apple cart mentality must go. It's time for Rush to jump in and become the program in Oregon that provides an avenue for top female athletes to be seen nationally. As the old saying goes, "build it and they will come."

The problem is there is not one club in the state of Oregon, INCLUDING THE OMNI-POWERFUL RUSH, that meet the ECNL standards. You must field a highly competitive team at every age group (U14-U18), plus have a very strong youth developmental model. There is not a club in the state that meets that criteria. Plus, is any club going to commit to having their participating families pay for the costs of participating in a travel-based league with an expected 30-game schedule? Probably not. That's a lot of money to be throwing around and a lot of weekends of (non-tournament based) travel. That kind of schedule and cost structure is what set up the boys' DA to fail here in Oregon; luckily the Timbers can bankroll the DA now.

Our club gets coaches gear and some equipment from addidas for our agreement for all players to wear its uniforms. No money at all.

Good to know, I have been wondering. I think it is really lame for the players to be required to practice in a certain brand when the kids are getting no benefit out of it. I can understand uniforms for games, but practices and warmups in the freezing winter cold and rain? Now if they (the clubs and sponsors) are giving the kids the warmups that might be different. Certainly it is more important to stay warm and dry, and what brand they are wearing is not that important. At least they don't require a certain brand of shoes.
