On the Washington soccer forum some of us frequent there is a very interesting thread that has been started about Slammers FC and a possible Portland area expansion of that program.
Slammers FC have recently added a Washington affiliate, Puget Sound Slammers.
It's no secret how successful the nationwide Rush program has become across the country, not just over in Bend, after such a short time- what does the future of Oregon soccer look like if Slammers FC come to town?
Would we be likely to see it become a magnet for the best talent, given the long history of success Slammers have in SoCal, and the likelihood of deep pockets/expansion of training facilities/select regionwide Slammers teams it might bring? (Rush puts together select teams from all their affiliates from time to time to play together- assuming a Slammers Select is also in place?)
Slammers FC is very involved in the ECNL- which no teams in Oregon have been invited into. They are year in and year out one of the top 10 club programs in the U.S.
In addition, they have a long tradition of putting kids into colleges and EVERYONE knows the Khoury brothers as top coaches if you're familiar with SoCal soccer.
The original thread mentioned OSSA as a potential club that could merge with Slammers FC but I'm guessing that was just speculation? OSSA is adding OSA and WUSC next year already.
Slammers FC are a Nike Premier club- might that make a difference who they might align with in Oregon? OSSA and FC are Nike teams, THUSC is Adidas.
