    Integrity

I think what one of the most troubling things from the 98G's tryout seems to be the lack of integrity. If the 2-8-2 and U12G's Team from WSM has 3 girls make the team that something is certainly missing in the process.

Time and time again in these threads we hear about bad parents who act inappropriately at soccer matches. Well, if this is the example being set by those who coach and run these Teams/clubs no wonder the parents are out of control.(Just go to a Westside U12 or U13 match and you will see.) One can only imagine that this lack of leadership is trickling down to the players as well.

Lack of civility is prevalent at all clubs. I am sure your club is not perfect...must be nice to persecute from your glass house.

        well...

we all know that it is impossible to have 2 or 3 good players on 2-8-2 team. great point. Clearly, since soccer isn't played with 11 on the field, that if a team goes 2-8-2 then nobody on that team is any good. because, as we all know, results mean everything at U12. could it be that a team tries to develop and play good soccer and not just win?? no, that couldn't possibly be a reason.

IT IS WSM for god sake they play everything to win. What a dumb comment. A U12 team that loses almost every game gets more players in ODP than a U13 team that is among the top in the state at the age group above? And you can justify this? Give me a break

Or more than their U12 rivals who ARE the best in state.

My daughter is a couple of years older than the 98 age group. She tried out for ODP the first year she was old enough to do so. She made the team (this was before regional groups). She did not have a great or even good experience and has not tried out again. With that being said, we are very familiar with the ODP process.

I want to comment on the 98 age group. I am familiar with many of the players since many of them have guest played on tournament teams that I put together. My two cents- One girl that made the team only did so because her parent was an evaluator. And the one girl from Onyx who did not make ODP,what were the coaches thinking????? This girl has played for my tourney teams many times. She played up 1-2 years. She always played amazingly well. By far the best player on the team! I can't even imagine why she did not make ODP!!! I am so disappointed with their decision. My kids do not play for THUSC so that is not why I am mentioning this. I know that something was not fair about their decision regarding this player!!!!!!

I have two daughters that have gone through ODP system. Every year there was questions as to why players were selected and even more why they were held over. At the end of the day coaches see different things in players. Playing on a good team and winning games does not make a soccer player. Sometimes it is more important what you do off the ball than what you do with it. I remember a story at regional camp where the best player in the country at that age group was not held over because of attitude. Coach decided to take lesser players because they could coach this player instead of dealing with their ego. Perhaps attitude and arrogance play a part in the selection? As parents we are not doing them favors by fighting their battles and inflating their egos. Telling a player she is the best, she is awesome, etc.. can have a negative impact on their development. I have seen it happen time and time again.

Until someone in the State beats them are they not the best team. Sounds like the description was correct!

Please enlighten us unregistered coach. Define off the ball? You must be the westside coach. I though coaches with class did not come on this ruthless forum

Or better yet sometimes it is who you know, or who your daddy is.

Attitude and arrogance did play a part in this selection process, but it was the arrogance of the coach not the players. Arrogance to pick their own child and team over more deserving players. The girls left off the list are not arrogant and have great attitudes. They work extremely hard and are the sweetest kids.

It's unfair to blame one evaluator for the whole fiasco. He was looking out for the interest of his club and any other coach would have, most likely, behaved the same way. I think the ODP staff needs to take responsibilty for allowing this conflict of interest to take place. Anyway, no one died and our girls will continue to play this beautiful game.

Next year, video tape the tryouts.

And just 1 evaluator he was. I find it hard to believe that he had:

                                1. Undue influence over the other 9 to vote ONLY his way
                                2. Voted so heavily for his clubs players that it out weighed the other 9.
                                3. Only voted for just his clubs players with such damaging remarks for the others that caused them not to be chosen at all.

This was a joint effort of 10 people. Some of them had to see the same things, since they were split amongst 3 fields.
