Anybody here the news last night? I was told at work that a coach raped a 17 year old. Is this true?

PORTLAND -- A soccer coach has been arrested by Washington County authorities, accused of sexually abusing a 17-year-old girl.

Police fear there may be other victims, according to Sgt. Vance Stimler of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Thelonius Bartlett, 52, who goes by "Loni" was arrested Oct. 13 on accusations of second-degree sex abuse, delivering marijuana to a minor and giving liquor to a minor.

The investigation began Oct. 7, Stimler said, and the incidents reportedly took place over the last several months.

Bartlett reportedly allowed a mentoring relationship to devolve into providing alcohol and marijuana and escalated to inappropriate touching, Stimler said.

Until recently, Bartlett was a coach for F.C. Portland, Stimler said, and also coached a young girl's team. He was not a coach of the victim in this case, Stimler said.

Anyone with more information was asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at (503) 846-2700.

Why? If this true, I think we need to prosecute this scumbag to the full extent. I don't need to support anyone but the judicial system. You can circle up and koom-by-ya all you want, I prefer justice and prosecution.

Justice and prosecution for the individual are merited. However bringing it up here with a heading of xxxx aims the focus at the club. If this should do anything it should raise our awareness as parents that there are dangerous people everywhere. Make sure you know your chd's coach, and those involved with them. If you look back in headlines to basketball coaches etc, this is not new ground.

Something as ugly as this though should not be used to push our agenda against other clubs. It's not kumbayah, it is just human decency, something that hopefully goes beyond club affiliations.

                Sad situation

Life is full of risks. One of them is handing your child over to others to be cared for or taught or coached. No one can know what is in the heart and mind of another.

The coach in question has been there for many years and is very well liked. It is a horribly sad situation with the damage done to the girl and the ruin of a coaching career.

This is not a time for attack, it's a time to learn and understand and deal with the issues.

Very well said. It's sad for *everyone* involved. He was well liked by parents and players and this was an isolated event that did not happen with anyone he was coaching.

Nice. No, it is not true. Although I can't say I'm surprised to read garbage like this on this forum. Get your facts straight before you post.

According to the article, the only thing "not true" about this statement is that that is doesn't state whether the girls was an xx player. So, instead of jumping on the poster and saying "Get your facts straight before you post" maybe you should read the article.

I would suggest terminating this thread. Obviously this is an incredibly emotional issue.

For xx parents it is probably very hard to react to this news.

For all of us non-xx parents it brings all the worst dreams or worries we have about our children to the forefront.

The story has been covered by news outlets, it shouldn't require further discussion here.

Your post doesn't even make sense. I did read the article:

"Stimler said Bartlett had not coached the girl."

I'm not sure how much more clear it could be?

"Stimler said Bartlett had not coached the girl." This statement gives no indication as to whether the player in question was/wasn't an xx player. So, how much clearer could it be? A lot.

[just thought I would help clarify]
