Oregon Premier League teams up with US Soccer to offer Mobile Training Center.

The OPL will provide a platform to assist in the identification and development of players for US National Team pools.

Portland, OR, September 27, 2010: The Oregon Premier League announced today they are partnering with US Soccer and their Youth Development programs to offer a training and development program aimed at identifying and training the state‟s top players with youth national team potential. Eligible players will be identified and nominated by local coaches for invitation to take part in the USSF Mobile Training Center (MTC). Players will be trained and evaluated based specifically on their viability to develop into players who could be significant contributors to the Youth National Team programs.

“This is a huge step forward for our league and most importantly our players,” said Oregon Premier Council President John Bain. “To have our league associated with this program and US Soccer speaks to the level of players we are developing here in Oregon and the quality of our clubs. We know not every player will end up on a national team, but to train to that standard will be something special for the players.”

Former US National Team player, and current head of the Western Division of the US Soccer Developmental Academy Hugo Perez will train and oversee the Mobile Training Center in Oregon. The age groups Perez will be working with at the Training Center are the ‟96, ‟97 and ‟98 boys (also, any exceptional „94s and „95s); as well as the ‟94, ‟95, ‟96, and ‟97 girls. There are no fees for players to participate in the Mobile Training Centers, but they must be invited to participate through a nomination process.

The first MTC session will take place on October 17 at the Tualatin Hills Rec Center with the top 20-30 players from the ‟97-‟98 boys and girls age groups; the MTC for the older players will begin after the high school season ends. Local coaches are invited to attend to view the quality of a youth national team training session and evaluate local players. Trainings will be held monthly and players may be added or cut as deemed necessary by MTC Directors Hugo Perez and Claudio Reyna. The nomination process for players is listed on the Oregon Premier League website (www.oregonpremierleague.com).

    Who: ‟97-‟98 Girls and Boys
What: First OPL USSF Mobile Training Center with Hugo Perez
    When: October 17; 5:00 – 6:30pm (girls), 6:30 – 8:00pm (boys)
Where: Tualatin Hills Parks and Rec Center, Field 2

    What a Great Opportunity

Nice to see that our kids get an opportunity to be seen by National Coaches here locally.

      OPL Steps Up

I can't recall in the last few years a similar opportunity for players under the OYSA Regime.
Seems that the OPL has delivered a good opportunity for our players and coaches.

I just wonder how OPL was able to pull this off.

        DC knows Hugo

One of the OPL Clubs DC knows Hugo and ask him to come. Big win for Oregon Players.

Does it include '98 girls or not? In the paragraph it states it only goes to '97 girls but when it lists the times it says '97-'98 boys and girls.

Used to play against Hugo Perez in college back in the 70's. He was a good player. My how the time flies!

I understand it is the WSM DOC is the one that invited Hugo. Thanks for getting this opportunity for our players.

This is a great opportunity for those players selected to show how good they are. Those that cannot afford ODP and ID2 now get a chance to be seen also.

The list of who made it to the mobile training center is pretty broad (at least at our club). Some are talented players with a good chance and others are not. From what I was told there will be cuts made in order to get the best of the best.

Great job to the WSM DOC setting this up. Too bad it is exclusive to OPL. There are at least two 97 boys in the national pool who are OYSA, but oh well. This might be the kind of thing going forward that could be shred between the organizations, start rebuilding the relationship...

Anyway, great job getting it all set up.

Ya we know some and don't understand why they were invited.

Because maybe someone else sees something you don't.
