Oregon Premier League teams up with US Soccer to offer Mobile Training Center.
The OPL will provide a platform to assist in the identification and development of players for US National Team pools.
Portland, OR, September 27, 2010: The Oregon Premier League announced today they are partnering with US Soccer and their Youth Development programs to offer a training and development program aimed at identifying and training the state‟s top players with youth national team potential. Eligible players will be identified and nominated by local coaches for invitation to take part in the USSF Mobile Training Center (MTC). Players will be trained and evaluated based specifically on their viability to develop into players who could be significant contributors to the Youth National Team programs.
This is a huge step forward for our league and most importantly our players, said Oregon Premier Council President John Bain. To have our league associated with this program and US Soccer speaks to the level of players we are developing here in Oregon and the quality of our clubs. We know not every player will end up on a national team, but to train to that standard will be something special for the players.
Former US National Team player, and current head of the Western Division of the US Soccer Developmental Academy Hugo Perez will train and oversee the Mobile Training Center in Oregon. The age groups Perez will be working with at the Training Center are the ‟96, ‟97 and ‟98 boys (also, any exceptional 94s and 95s); as well as the ‟94, ‟95, ‟96, and ‟97 girls. There are no fees for players to participate in the Mobile Training Centers, but they must be invited to participate through a nomination process.
The first MTC session will take place on October 17 at the Tualatin Hills Rec Center with the top 20-30 players from the ‟97-‟98 boys and girls age groups; the MTC for the older players will begin after the high school season ends. Local coaches are invited to attend to view the quality of a youth national team training session and evaluate local players. Trainings will be held monthly and players may be added or cut as deemed necessary by MTC Directors Hugo Perez and Claudio Reyna. The nomination process for players is listed on the Oregon Premier League website (www.oregonpremierleague.com).
