Actually the quote was; "Even after the blown call gave Santa Rosa a PK....." and it was referring to the corner kick. I wish if people are going to quote from the blog that they at least get it right.

I agree, terrific showing by all the NW teams. The NW Nationals team even sent our manager a "Good luck in the finals" email for her to share with the team. We thought was pretty great. What a class act.

    :)

From your blog: "These tough as nails warriors battled the Santa Rosa team down to the wire and, with the help of two blown calls in a row, ended up taking home the second place trophy."

Enough already. The guy shouldn't have to defend THUSC Sodium getting to the final of a major west coast tournament! He should be able to let the efforts of the players do the talking, but if he wants to blog about it too- great. His opinion, his bandwidth.

I don't see any of the players blogging about how they lost because of the refs. Well coached players know the game is won and lost in spite of/regardless of what the ref does, and they don't complain about it.

          Great showing THUSC Sodium.

That's the whole point. The kids are great; the kids work hard. Then the parents make excuses. The video speaks for itself. No one is disputing the right to blog about it and pump up the team however he sees fit. Are you really suggesting that it should go unchallenged just because its "his opinion, his bandwidth." Be real.

P.S. Again, the kids did great and should be proud. They don't need someone spouting off about blown calls costing them the game.

It's his blog so he can write whatever he would like. It's your choice to go there and read it or not. He never once mentioned it on here until people quoted from his blog. You seem to not agree with what he said so the simpliest solution is to just not read the blog. I never saw the bad corner kick call in the video so I don't know what the right call was.

Stop looking for a reason to complain and just say congrats to Sodium.

You kidding me? Anytime there is an opportunity to complain about a coach or a parent of a team that is doing well, or the team itself, you can count on this forum to step right up!

No good deed goes unpunished I always say!

How about; "Great job girls, way to represent Oregon soccer!"

Gotcha. I must have missed the provision in the Talking Soccer rulebook about what can/should be discussed. I assume you also are not the person who referred to the "blown call" as "weak" - on this forum.

And congrats to the Sodium team, who appear to be terrific kids.

There is no provision, but why not just keep it positive?

I guess that goes hand in hand with comments I'd like to see such as, "we got beat by a better team," or even "got a bit unlucky toward the end."

I can only assume since this thread has deteriorated to Sodium and the blog parent that this post is directed there. If you look back I think you will notice that only on the team blog does it ever say things like 'Blown Call' or whatever, and it seems that people want to draw the blog posts into this forum as if they were one-in-the-same. They are not. They are two separate entities. As far as I can tell (only been reading for a few weeks) SodiumFan2 mainly posts to defend or correct people who speak negatively of his posts or team. Why not leave the blog out of the forum? Just a thought. I have never read a forum (on any subject) so influenced by a single person than this one. A few posts back said "Its your choice to read it or not" and I agree. If you don't post anything negative then you won't have to read anything negative in rebuttal. IMHO I think people should just keep it positive towards the players and teams.

What can you tell from that video? It is not clear to me that it is a handball and what else was the girl to do, let the ball go through? I have seen more obvious handballs go uncalled 9 times out of 10 just so the refs would not decide the game. Rip Sodium fan 2 if you want then get ready to be beat by Sodium again! you may not be able to win but you have this forum to whine! from behind the keyboard I yell; Go Sodium!

                              video observations

poor to comical heading lead to 2 goals...first goal california cleanly and without any pressure heads the ball to an onlooking forward positioned grateful oregon player who heads it back to a teammate heading towards goal..did the cali girl get an assist on the play....oregon defender sets the ball on a platter inside the 18 for the cali girl to fire at goal... another defender has arms out and gets smack with shot on arm, inadvertent save...but a hand ball in the box none the less....causal heading after a long punt and corner kick..these girls need to be taught the basics of defensive heading on a corner...keep the going the direction of the incoming cross away from goal or over the endline at worst...also get some power and direction to send the ball high and wide and away from your attacking opponents...or pay the price of getting scored on in situations where none really exsisted until casual defensive heading reared it's ugly head....get off the forum and learn the basics of the game

"If a player deliberately handles the ball to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity (e.g., to prevent a breakaway or to deliberately stop a shot), a red card should be given and the player "sent off". However, a hand ball foul should not be called if: (1) a player is instinctively trying to protect himself from injury or (2) the player did not deliberately touch the ball but the ball hit his arm & he did not move the arm toward the ball (however, if the player's arms were in an unnatural position such as above his shoulders or sticking out to the sides, then he should be called for a handball)."
Clear handball to everyone except to those associated with a team named for a metallic element with a symbol Na.
