I saw the game and thought that it was a great show for OR girls U'15 soccer from a neutral perspective. It was a shame that a team had to lose in the game as both teams played some good soccer and put everything into the game.

I also think that the coaches of both teams showed a lot of class when making their comments after the game at the presentation! Well done for being positive about each others teams.

Finally well done to the Ireland girls for going over to the Marine girls after they got their medals and came off the stage to shake hands and say good game.

I don't think OYSA paid for the banner, and certainly didn't have a similar banner made up for FC Portland in case they won. People wonder why THUSC in general is despised; there is a large difference between confidence and arrogance. Many of the THUSC parents and coaches have an arrogance about them--there is no humility or grace with winning. I mean, the first thing they do is come to a youth soccer forum to bellow about winning 4 State Cups. From Neon holding a press conference at a downtown Portland hotel when their players signed letters of intent, to Ireland parents pre-purchasing a State Champions banner, to Sodium's blogger, there is very little class displayed with their winnings. And that makes a big difference, because however nice the kids may be, it's their parents and coaches who make the largest contribution to their poor reputation.
Who cares who paid for the banner. They would have been out the money if they lost so, in your closed little mind, wouldn't that have been justification enough?

Whine, whine, whine! If you don't like playing a competitive club than take your kids and play REC or the league where they don't keep score to keep little Johnny & Betty's egos in tack. But don't come on here and try to blast a club for being competitive.
THUSC is proud, is that wrong? NO. Are they cocky and often over confident? YES. Is that wrong? NO. If your a kid and see a team kick'n butt, chances are you want to be a part of that. That's called human nature, survival of the fittest. If you don't like it than put together a team and beat them. THAT's the way to do it. Don't come on here whining and sniveling. Deal with it folks. You people are unbelievable and make me nauseous. Get off their back.

The hatred towards THUSC has nothing to do with arrogance. It's simply a matter of hating who is on top. I've heard people bash Westside, LOSC, and FC at times because they were top dog. People in general don't like to see others suceed. I remember when Jordan was top dog and people started turning on him, trying to find things to complain about. Sadly, it comes from the people who aren't willing to work hard and be the best. It's simply easier to complain about those that are. If LOSC or FC had won 4 championships you people would be turning on them.

From what I saw no one came on here 'boasting' about winning 4 championships. It sounded more like a proud parent. I don't have any kids on THUSC but I would like to say CONGRATULATIONS!

The banner was made by the partner of the AC on Ireland. So do not make comments without knowing the fatcs.

Also how many times have we seen similair banners and t-shirts produced in tournament finals in So Cal and other places?! It really isn't a big deal in my opinion. The Ireland team did not parade the banner around the field and/or run up to the Marine team waving the banner - that would have been a lack of class!!!

            Soccer, Banners and such

I was rooting for Marine, and they just about had it. It seemed they changed tactics in the second overtime to play a defensive stand. I guess they were trying to hold the lead. Unfortunately that didn't work for them and they lost in PKs. PKs suck unless you're the winner. Truth is, it could have gone to either team; it has become a great rivalry. Yes, Ireland has had the State Cup four times now, and Marine has had the runner up position three of those four times. These two teams appear to be the cream of the crop in the U94 age group. Next year should be fun.

As for the banner, yeah it was a little presumptuous and NC, but they've earned a little arrogance. I could guess which Ireland Parent paid for it. :-D It would have been funny if he had to take it home and use it for a drop cloth.

It seems some people always hate the guys on top; FC PDX always gets nasty comments because they have a winning tradition, Thusc had a great finish this year, so it's their turn to be hated.

Sometimes Ireland guesses right and sometimes they guess wrong. This time they guessed right with the banner. However, they guessed wrong a couple years back when they pre-purchased tickets and hotel for regionals and lost in state Semis. This is nothing new for Ireland. Assuming you win is fine, just so long as you do and are not embarrased....

Almost all teams in the semi look into pre-purchasing plane tickets. Prices sky rocket the closer you get. It's pretty normal.

I believe they were purchase well in advance of State Cup even starting and were non-refundable.

Good for them. I bet they got the best deal out of all the teams! Except for maybe Neon since they already had a bid to Regionals.

The previous poster is correct. It was all over the message boards when they lost in semi's. Ask any Ireland parent. I personally don't think it is a big deal. I applaud them for having the confidence in their girls to make that type of investment.

Well then, that says it all. "It would have been lack of class"

It was indeed lack of class. Cocky and really arrogant.

I am not sure it has one thing to do with having confidence in your daughter/their daughter's. I would hope we can all say we have confidence in our daughter's, without the need to place that type of pressure on them. I thought their keeper was about to blow a serious gasket at the semi-final and the final game. It was rather scary.

Ireland isn't the team their parents think they are; they are a good, top Oregon team. Period. Nothing more, or less. They went out winning State Cup not because they were the better team, and their last few games proved that. Those teams were all so very equal, and in fact, Ireland was dominated more often than not.

I do, however, think they might want to brush up on their PK skills in case that becomes needed in NM.

So basically you are saying if a team manger/parents purchase tickets prior to actually winning State Cup, they lack class and are cocky and arrogant? I call that being proactive and good planning. Why would any team wait until the afternoon they won? Then they are fighting with the rest of the Oregon's teams/parents/coaches for space on planes and hotels and paying over inflated prices? What happens is if you don't make it you offer your block of rooms or seats to a team that won who might be staying miles & miles further away or have flights more expensive or less convenient. Teams are VERY appreciative of that, especially in an event as large as Regionals. This year we had a few FC teams offer us there block of rooms. I thought that was extremely generous and showed an enormous amount of class.

Sounds like you've never went to a Regional event before.

We were told ticket prices were over $400 a piece and that was back in the begining of April. I can image how much the price went up for those that waited.

Whoever made the above post should be ashamed of her/himself! Where do you get the idea its alright to call out individual players for anything, let alone use them as a target for your blatent sour grapes?!

Ireland's keeper and her teammates performed admirably in PKs during both the Semis and Final. The keeper made several saves and even scored 1 or 2 PKs herself. Neither she nor her teammates looked like they were losing their heads. In fact, they came from behind in the Final to tie game before winning it in PKs. Several posters on this site agreed it was probably the most exciting State Cup Final match in years. Ireland should be proud of their accomplishment and I'm sure they will do Oregon proud at regionals.

Either you are parent from a team Ireland defeated or just a pitiful, jealous adult whose child (or themselves) haven't experienced Ireland's level of success. Whichever it is, YOU are the person lacking in class, and are in fact pathetic. Leave the kids alone!
