Looking Onward

The scores from last weekend in GU13 were perhaps the most surprising yet. I still see Ireland, Storm, Marine, Energy, and Possession as the top five in State Cup seedings, just not so sure what order.

Also, the Dynamite showed Nemesis such a good game, that they may climb out of their funk to the 8 or 9 seed.

Possession is hard for me to figure. They have put up some bad scores, but bested Eastside easily. Also, the Timbers wallop some teams, but baaaaaarely beat Eastside.

The bottom line is that probably no team in Gold wins or loses fewer than three games this season. Perhaps, as players and teams mature, parity sets in. With the exception of Nemesis, the same will likely be true in Silver.

I still cast a wary eye on that sleeper team in Silver that knocks off a Gold team in November.

With the Timbers being in the top eight Gold bracket and the Nemesis looking to be the top team in silver what does Oregon do for the top level state cup bracket in the fall? Do the top eight play or is everyone placed in the same state cup?

I see Oregon Rankings like this right now based on league play:

As I understand it, any Oregon team that wishes to do so may enter the state cup tournament. (Last year in GU12 there were, I believe, about 15 teams.)

The teams are seeded according to (1) their fall season division and (2) the number of points accumulated within division play. Because the Timbers are in Gold, the last place finisher in Gold will be the 7th seed (playing the 2nd, 10th, and 15th seeds in state cup).

As you project the seedings, Bend's bracket would include the 8th and 9th seeds (Dynamite and Atletica).

So at the end of round 1 for league the Oregon Rankings would look like this: Would you rank the teams like this? Where does the Timbers and Nemesis fit in?

keep in mind that not all teams have played the same number of games.
I still think Timbers are in the top 4. Still don't see Sunderland as a real threat, although their additions are certainly making a difference for them. Possession and Energy are still teams to be reckoned with, I wouldn't count them out just yet.

In response to a prior question, unless something has changed, Nemesis and Timbers will not participate in the OYSA State Cup. Thus, assuming that Nemesis wins Silver, the second place team in that division will be the eighth seed in state cup.

This was another weekend of interesting results. As I said previously, probably every team in Gold wins and loses at least two games. In prior seasons, teams were more spread out.

From what I've seen, Bend, Ireland, and Marine seem destined to be the top three seeds. The fourth and fifth seeds (who play each other in state cup) seem quite up in the air. My guess is that Energy makes one of those spots, while Possession and Sunderland battle for the other.

As Shu's Daddy said after PQT's, no one can take any game for granted in this division.

Why would you put Marine above Ireland? They have never beaten them head to head and lost 2-0 already at home to the Ireland girls. And it wasn't even that close truth be told.

Bend WILL slip when they start driving 4+ hours and sleeping in strange beds (not weird just not there OWN beds) and eating out all the time (restraunt food usually doesn't help players). No more home field, half as many wins. beating only the lower half of gold if they are lucky(ie. Sunderland, Energy, FC Will. Ginga). They will loose on the road to Marine, Ireland, Timbers without a question. I can see them going 3-4 this 2nd half.

I wasn't putting Marine ahead of Ireland. I just used the standings for Gold and silver as of this weekend and excluded the Washington teams. If I were to actually rank the Oregon teams my ranking would be VERY different.

How would you rank the Oregon teams. I was leaning one way but some teams have come out of CQTs and PQTs VERY flat... Shu's dad you know what I'm talking about? But then Sunderland has really picked it up (and picked up players) and doing better than I would've figured...

I got top ten. The bottom half is hard to call.

The bottom half is hard to call. Top dog is easy enough. I cant help but feel that FC Will will get out of its funk and start playing the soccer it was playing at the end of last year. Well not RIGHT at the end of their season but a few games before that. :-P... They are my dark horse only fear is they travel poorly like Bend and almost every other team at this age...

Remember, none of my opinions equal a hill of beans, Im just making chili and trying to stir the pot :)...
