if you read about the great compromise, this was exactly what was anticipated. population differences were not 800,000 vs 39 million, but the point was that large states would have disproportionate control of congress.

what i think the founders would not have agreed with is the continuous increase in power of the executive branch of the federal government. this was clearly very contrary to the sentiment of the time. they did not want a "king" and felt that a concentration of executive power would lead to tyranny.

for example, declaring war with iran would have profound effects on the middle east, geopolitics, supplies of natural resources, etc. this determination should be made by the people as part of their self governance. the founders would not have agreed that one man would have the ability to declare war.

There are issues with the electoral college...

There have been 3 (maybe 4) times where someone has won the popular vote and lost the electoral college (and the election). The Electoral College was originally set up because of information. Information passed at an extremely slow rate so when the electors would go to cast their vote (of the electoral college) they would have the most up to date information.

If we divided the electoral votes evenly among the population...1 electoral vote should equal about 575,00 people. It doesn't workout that way though.

Each state start with 3 electoral votes and the rest a distributed by population...so smaller state with populations around a million should only have 2 votes, end up with 4...so those people essentially have a bigger voice (1 voted representing about 230,000 people). As a result, large state have less votes then they should...Texas is about 7 electoral votes short and California is 10 votes short (our great state of Florida is 4 votes short.

Also, going with a popular vote would have a larger influence on the political process as most candidates focus solely on the battle ground states right now (Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina...) California and Texas will both go to a particular party so the candidates rarely campaign in those states. (no need as they no it is a winner take all system and they will easily get the 50% plus vote vote threshold). A popular votes may force them to hit other areas of the country besides those battleground states.

A popular vote also doesn't mean that candidates will only focus on large cities as the population for the 100 largest cities in the US only equals 20% of the total population.

the poster was referring to senate seats, not the electoral college.

Yep, the lack of care by the American people is why the Men's team performs poorly.

I watch the Men's world cup...I watch it a ton and if the US men's would have been in it I would have watch them and cheered for them. It is hard to care for something that doesn't really exist on the international stage.

I am a Liberal but as a liberal being open minded. Some how the far left high-jacked the phase and added progressive to fool the young and dumb as well that they are noble.

If those who follow just saw who is controlling the message that they blindly made their religion they would realize they are actually supporting the complete opposite of liberal and are no better then Hilter's Socialists, Stalin's, Pol Pots or Chairman Mao's Communists.

Hundreds of millions of people those guys are responsible for killing for disagreed with them.

So if a few states legally and illegally allow anyone in the world to come into their states to pump up their population numbers, get those people depended upon them, then they will control the entire nation. That is if we undo democracy your way.
For that would mean three states would control the nation and would also mean anyone worth hundreds of billions of dollars just needs to control the democratic party in three states and then they would control the United States.

Gee their are people in oil producing nations that are worth billions. Never mind those who are worth hundreds of millions outside the USA in China and such.

Let's take a step back. in our government, power is divided between the 3 branches of government. bringing in massive numbers of new citizens presumably beholden only to one party could impact presidential elections, but would not impact control of congress in a material manner. assuming all the nefarious, conspiratorial forces you believe are in play are really in play, you would not undo democracy in this country.

our system is built to withstand abuses of the executive branch (by democrats or republicans), as long as the following stand: separation of powers; term limits; freedom of speech and the press. attacks on these 3 are real attacks on the core of democracy.

Must be why nearly every case of voter fraud has been by a Republican. Even Trump's own commission couldn't find widespread instances, nor the Department of Justice

The GOP also gerrymanders districts and passes restrictive voter ID laws that go against minority and poor voters.

And I suppose you don't think the Father is responsible for drowning his poor little girl.Had he survived he would of been charged with murder.

Ha, ha, ha. I love the self-righteous Trumptards. No, he would not have been "charged with murder" you brainless turd. You know nothing about anything, apparently. People don't try to cross dangerous rivers for fun - they do so because the option is WORSE than possibly drowning. He came from a country where his daughter would face a life of violence and deprivation, and he wanted better for her. Just like your ancestors came to this country, murdered a bunch of people who were already living here, and stole their property. Don't judge - isn't that what you phoney Christians are always saying.
