Lots of kids have the grades, scores and hooks. A school will take the deeper pocket almost every time with all things being equal. That is the essence of why people are so pissed about all this. In many cases, the more aid your kid needs; the more difficult it will be to get in. Very few schools are need based blind like MIT.

You have to be beyond truly outstanding candidate to supplant an applicant that can either 1) pay their own way or 2) pay their own way + give a big check to the new law school building.
