I know people on this thread take issue with SB. He was very respectful and did a good job running a few sessions with my daughter when the regular ECNL coaches were not there. So I don't have enough experience with the guy to know why all the hate. I think the situation with his daughter may be related to her knee. She has hurt it a few times and may be coming to that very difficult decision of whether soccer is the sport for her. It has to be tough when you are part of a soccer family. But one joint that will not hold up after being weakened by injury is the knee....especially by age 14.
When you look at most USWNT players and when they blew out a knee it was after 17-years old. That is when the game starts to really pick up the pace and the collisions are much more violent. By that age, most girls have matured and are carrying more weight and playing at a faster pace so the aggressiveness really picks up. I saw a tackle at the College Cup finals that could be heard from across the field. When you see how far Alex Morgan flew through the air when she was fouled at the 18 during World Cup, you get a feeling for how hard and fast these ladies go at it by the time they are in their 20s.
So you have to believe that SB is thinking about this as a dad first and coach second. He knows that it is only going to get more violent on the pitch and his girl is nursing a bad knee. I feel for the family. It has to be a tough decision but hopefully her love of sports will keep her active in something that is not going to keep putting stress on that knee.
