the minor flaw of FSPL is its entry requirement to league 1.

there are every year a couple of teams that make it into the league 1 via the sweet 16 based on performance of guest players in state cup. interestingly the infiltration of guests seems to be down a bit but that may just be my experience?

No one said that, it is just that most clubs involved with it have only 1 or 2 strong teams participating for various reasons and the rest are mediocre. In many cases their premier teams play elsewhere (Jax, Krush, Tampa Bay). This makes the competition spotty. There may be 3 games where a team wins by 6 and then the next game gets beat by 3. No consistency yet. FSPL is for the most part consistent. Not the best teams since those also play R3PL and ECNL but you know every game will be competitive.

Any team that has to add 2 or 3 players right before State Cup knows they are not competitive otherwise and have not prepared their team effectively. It is a shame it is allowed at all. State Cup should not include players who have not been rostered to the team for the majority of league games. This makes it a true assessment of a teams ability not how well they were able to recruit in the last minute.

They can't play ecnl because it isn't in their location, but they don't play NPL because they know they need to be playing ecnl? what?

State Cup won't be a true competition until all teams that qualify for state cup, start at the same time and play the same number of games - win move on, lose go home. It is a shame from the get go.

one or two players i can see as normal usually a team covering for an injury or as more typically the case, adding a backup keeper that might not ordinarily be carried throughout regular season because you have no worries of roster freeze. basically adding players as a roster freeze contingency.

what i don't get is when you see teams add 6, 7 heck even as many as 9 players and having a 22 man roster. it almost becomes like playing super Y where the SC team barely resembles the roster that had previously been signed in May.

FSPL should be the better league when you think of the round of 16 teams, but as mentioned, a lot of roster adjusting at SC lets weak teams in. Looking at both they usually have the same as any league. A handful of really strong teams that rip the rest and a handful of bad teams that take a beat down from the team in the middle. I see those 5-0 games in both leagues. We played in both this year and this year NPL was stronger for our age. Looking at this years round of 16, if they are coming, FSPL could match it or be better. I am just not a fan of FYSA and how they run things. Very half butt. Ideas are good, but never fully complete the original plans and seems to be for the worst.

if you can carry 22 and the dress to play is 18, I have no problem. The problem is for the ringer brought in and the players benched for them. I would PO'd if my kid got benched for a ringer. Having the extra 22 for as you mention a keeper one extra dee, mid and forward for injuries is fine. Especially with the heat coming on.

You are an idiot, just stop.

Even if EVERYONE played Round 1, you would still have to have some kind of seeding as you wouldn't want 4 top 10 teams randomly drawn into the same group (creating a "Group of Death"). The U15B had 34 Round 1 teams, only THREE made it to the Round of 16. That is not because they had to "play more games" (boo f'n hoo), but because they were not that good.

If everyone played Round 1 and it was seeded, you would have teams traveling all over the state over two weekends to meet the USYS requirement of 1 game/day, instead of the regional format of this year's Round 1.

If your team was a State Cup contenter Round 1 should have been a cake walk and a way to hone skills in preparation for Round 2. If your team got knocked out in Round 2, they aren't that good-sorry, but the truth.

For you to continue your pathetic whining about having to play more games (you got a 2 week break between Round 1 & Round 2, so fatigue isn't a factor in Round 2) and saying it "isn't a true competition" is childish and ignorant.

The only thing you wrote that comes close to enlightening is saying "those teams that qualify for State Cup". The only answer that would work to your criteria would make "qualifying" more strict and limit the competition to the top 32 teams (and I would bet you would be bitching because your suck team wouldn't "qualify"). In the U15B you could have the seeded 16, the 3 that made it thru Round 1 & 2 and you could still pick up THIRTEEN bubble teams and make a decent tournament. That would leave 21 teams out of the tournament this year, and honestly-they never stood a chance and should play Region Cup. If that is what you want to see, I am all for it-it would cut down on the length of the tournament and the requisite travel.

yeah i agree. add for contingency not for necessity to compete.

But our club can only secure a FSPL spot for our second or third team borrowing ECNL or NPL players.

No you are the idiot. If your team is so high and mighty then what do you care about what happens in round 1. SC should continue to be open to all. Some teams are underrated (as you mentioned, some unseeded teams make rd16 and it happens EVERY year). Teams even change over the course of the year.

Classic SB, SC and JA. Taking ECNL players to try and win state cup.

How do the Purple parents feel about this? I bet the ECNL girls played full games.

Reading comprehension not your strong suit?

I am the one who is perfectly fine with the way SC is organized this year. I think the seeding with the regional focus of Round 1 Play-in for unseeded teams works perfectly fine. I KNOW that there are unseeded teams that deserve a shot and have proven themselves by getting to the Round of 16. I KNOW that some seeded teams are OVER RATED and they got knocked out in Round 2.

The OP was the one who was whining, saying that it wasn't a "true competition" unless everyone played an equal number of games. With the 1 game/day requirement it was the only way to feasibly fit the tournament in. Either it works the way it did this year, OR (PLEASE NOTE THAT I DON'T THINK THINK THIS IS A GOOD OPTION) you have to restrict entry to 32 teams per age to placate the "everyone should play an equal number of games" crybaby.

Certainly not complaining. our team would easily make your mark of 32 teams. What idiot would get on here that wouldn't.
