Originally posted by Unregistered View PostActually, for OCYS those are record numbers. In all the years prior to the merger with CFK, OCYS had NOTHING. They maybe had a total of 3 recruits in 3 years prior to merger with CFK. So, the numbers they had this year are also off the charts compared to prior to the merger and ECNL

Was it that the players on those 2 teams were not very good? Nor were the teams? Where was HMs "connections" for those players? Just curious…please explain it to me? I just think its kind of ironic that CFK had horrible recruiting and now all of a sudden its great. Same goes for WFF. They had nothing in 2012. In 2013, a team that went to the SC finals 4 years in a row had 10 scholarships and most the schools were nothing to speak of. After ECNL, the scholarships for the very next class (2014) at both clubs shot up like a rocket and they were high quality scholarships. The only thing the two clubs have in common is that it was their first year of ECNL for both clubs. I am not here to argue about whether the girls are deserving or whether one can get a good college scholarship without ECNL. I am just saying that ECNL increases awareness of some players and it does help. For you to think that is not true is a bigger joke imo in the face of ALL data across the country to the contrary.
Anyone who tries to distill the recruiting process into a sound bite about ECNL, "exposure", or even one guy's connections and influence is a damn fool who hasn't actually been through it with a son or daughter. It is NOT SIMPLE. It is a complex process of many factors, not the least of which is the players' own guts and desire to succeed over the course of many, many YEARS of hard work.
Like I said I'm tired of debating the armchair pundits of TS on this issue. All I can tell you is I am an eyewitness to the entire process starting from back when CFU was a big sad rec club without direction, through the CFK years, the utter debacle of the "merge" and finally the split between OCYS and FKK.
I'm glad it's over for my kid, who was rewarded for her years of work. but I'm sincerely dismayed that yet another generation of parents is looking for the easy path- which now includes a pink patch - and is really just another "product" that will eventually go the same route that every other "get rich quick" scheme has gone, replaced by another, then another. And nobody ever learns.

Next year will be a breakout year for OCYS- just wait and see!

Take the exact same player(ODP state pool not higher) and put them on two teams:
ECNL team X
Hernando County
Would you say that the player would more likely be recruited from ECNL team X or Hernando County? That is an extreme example but illustrates a point. There is an advantage playing on a state cup championship team that goes to high level tournaments as there is an advantage of playing on an ECNL team. It would be like applying to a top law school or medical school from Yale vs applying from San Jose St. Princeton carries weight and it has a name that makes you think QUALITY because it has a history of quality. That is not to say that the student that goes to San Jose St is not a better student either or that they also wont be accepted. ECNL has a history of QUALITY for most coaches and for that reason players that play for most ECNL teams do enjoy a bit better of an opportunity. To sit there and say its not true would also be ignoring the facts. Of course, a horrible ECNL team or player will not automatically enjoy success look at Virginia Rush! Just because the opportunity is there does not mean every kid will find success. Have you ever done a search to see what college coaches have to say about ECNL? Can you explain to me why over 85% of ALL recruits to ACC schools are ECNL players? I have a very close friend who coaches at a top 5 D-1 women's program. Her comment to me was "we use our ID camps and ECNL events primarily" "we do go to some high level tourneys outside ECNL" "The players who contact us directly will be invited to our ID camp if we have some interest" You may think you are talking to the "next wave of armchair parent" but you would be dead wrong.

One female coach from Stetson, one male coach from St. Leo those 2 coaches were working with 14 girls. 2 other coaches from the same school coached the other 14 girls. So 3 schools, about 2 hrs into it Female UCF coach watch for about 45 mins, with 15 mins left in the morning session FSU coach watched 15 mins. After lunch on Sat only 2 coaches came back. Sunday I don't know because we never came back on Sunday. We were looking for 3 other schools that were said to be coming and never did. So for us it was a bust.

At what point do you have the question the management of the club as just not being able to lead? Good grief. Get some folks in decision making roles that actually have some sense and some leadership abilities.
