This is the best post I have seen in a long time. It is right on the money and the future is not good for OC youth. If it is to be fixed they will have to adjust all the teams and the current kids will suffer in the short term for the other kids to do well in the long team. If no changes are made this will go on and on and on. All you have to do is look at the win loss record to see that this is very accurate. Look at PS this year, look at ML last year, watch SM and MM in the DA this year. All of ECNL is losing and the Purple teams are horrible.

I'm in an industry that brings tourists, which is the tax base for the stadium scheme. All MLS will do is cannibalize the tourism, take $s from my business and give it to Phil. In a way, not only have I "promoted the sport", my labor is PAYING for it through tourists I bring. Good enough for me to comment?

Latest numbers I've seen.

Stadium cost $85 Million first phase ( this cost will go up and Orlando will pay for certain more )

$30 million comes from Ownership but vague on details

$55 Million comes from Orlando Citizens but thats only if Stadium cost $85 million first phase only and we all know once things past the cost will go up and it's then easier to ask for more money. Pete Clark might be the smartest Orlando Citizen. The mayor's are sold wearing purple

The whole rationale for using Tourist Tax $s for the stadium is "new tourism"- not cannibalizing existing tourism. But you Purple Zombies don't seem to grasp that point. You think soccer dollars taken from Disney or Universal are "good", when in reality they're "neutral".

For one thing any cost overruns are on OC not Orlando. That has been made clear from day one.

Lets get past the stadium cost alone. We are aware of the breakdown. So lets talk about the cost of bringing a Mls team to Orlando. The Franchising fee alone is like 80 million dollars. With all the cost of bringing it into town, we complain about our chance for Mls soccer. I would my money to go to soccer. To be honest, right now my taxes go to benefiting other sports and efforts that I have 0 interest in. If I could choose where my money goes, it would go to soccer. It is going to go somewhere and I know I am not getting it back so I would like Mls soccer. We didn't have anyone in town before that had a shot of getting Mls here. It takes money and connections. None of which we had at that level before.

The franchise is "portable". the stadium is not. If this is such a big money maker, why do they need any public funding at all? Phil is not sharing profit- he's sharing risk. You know it and I know it.

Unfortunately- The OC spin machine and the legions of Purple and their silly "petition" and smoke bombs have convinced the idiot politicians- in spite of all real evidence to the contrary- that this is a "no brainer investment".

in reality, the MLS will bring little in "new dollars" to Orlando. It will for the most part divert existing dollars- money that would have been spent at other attractions- to Phil's pocket. you might get a few bumps with International Friendlies or an MLS All-star game during your first year, but over the long term it will do little and cost much.

Of course, Buddy and Teresa will be long gone by the time reality hits and we have a tiny single-purpose $100million stadium sitting vacant for most of the year. And there will be one more tale of failure just like the citrus Bowl.
