Unfair sales and marketing by Orlando City MLS. Leaders beware
The new rules pertaining to club ownership of a player? The 100 mile rule? The dollars behind professional sold players by age 12-14 years of age to european clubs?
I'd assume our politicians know little to nothing about professional soccer business that Orlando City is bringing to Orlando. Big business big bucks. Using public dollars to fund a private multi million dollar business.
Basketball, Baseball and football are completely different. Dads coach Pee Wee, pop warner, or babe ruth baseball for the love and joy. Those fantastic players of the Maitland days or Seminole days or the Football local greats rights do not belong to Winter Park Pop warner. Soccer is a whole new ball game and our local politicians haven't a clue.
Bet you factual Phil has not spoken a word..

Statement from Phil Rawlins – Orlando City Soccer Club, Founder & President:
“Community outreach has always been an important part of Orlando City SC’s mission. As such I have been disappointed to learn of misleading information related to Orlando City’s desire to create new recreational soccer programs aimed at under-privileged youth. This ‘Q & A’ is designed to clear up this misinformation. Soccer has a worldwide tradition of being accessible to all, and it is that type of access to the sport that Orlando City is committed to. Soccer has never been as popular as it is today and we are delighted to play a part in that continued growth locally.”
Questions & Answers:
Was Orlando City Soccer Club trying to control usage of the 15 new soccer fields in Orange County?
No. Orlando City SC has never requested or wanted control or exclusive use of any of these new fields.
What was Orlando City SC’s original request regarding use of the 15 new soccer fields in Orange County?
As part of the new Major League Soccer stadium funding agreement, Orlando City SC is committed to providing $3,000,000 towards the development and maintenance of up to 15 new soccer fields in Orange County. A secondary requirement of the agreement, made by Orange County, is that Orlando City conducts community based soccer programs reaching a minimum of 2,000+ Orange County youth annually. Potential examples include: After-school soccer-themed programs, youth soccer clinics and camps featuring our professional players throughout the County.
Orlando City SC initially asked that five percent (5%) of the time allocated on the 15 new soccer fields in Orange County be utilized for ‘free soccer starter leagues’ aimed at under-privileged kids in order to meet a portion of this requirement. Orlando City SC proposed covering the cost for this free community program which would have been implemented in conjunction with the Orange County Parks & Recreation Department.
The programs proposed by OCSC would have taken place over two 12-week periods each year. The primary goal of the program was to increase interest in the sport of soccer for kids that otherwise may not ever be exposed to the sport.
Is Orlando City SC still requesting 5% of the field time usage for the 15 new soccer fields in Orange County?
No, Orlando City SC has withdrawn this request. Instead, we will focus on creating new soccer-related community programs and clinics which will focus on after-school programs, etc., and primarily use Orange County school facilities.
Has Orange County decided which groups will receive use of the 15 new fields?
No. Orange County has indicated that its Parks & Recreation Advisory Board will outline a process later this year to study which community organizations could use each of the 15 new fields. Orlando City Soccer Club will not receive any preferential treatment during this process.
What are Orlando City SC’s future plans for community soccer programs?
Community outreach has always been a very important part of Orlando City SC’s mission, something that we have demonstrated time and again in the past three years. We will continue to work diligently to create new community soccer-related programs for kids, such as after-school programs and camps and clinics. We look forward to continuing our work with the County and other local youth soccer clubs to expose as many Orange County families to the game of soccer as possible. We welcome the opportunity of working with any local youth soccer clubs who share our passion and vision for the growth of the game in Central Florida.

Most every DA program in the Country is fully funded so Free soccer for DA is not news. MLS requires all MLS Clubs to pay for Development Academy so again NOT news. OC reports this news as if they are doing us all a purple favor. Get over yourself OC.
If you provided Free Soccer to the entire community you still would not get our family on board.
Free soccer only to use the numbers for grand sponsorship opportunities by billionaires
Go back and read the press release regarding DA. Here is the first paragraph, "In conjunction with Orlando City Soccer Club’s (OCSC) move to Major League Soccer (MLS) beginning in 2015, Orlando City Youth Soccer (OCYS) today announced that their U.S. Soccer Development Academy program will transition into a model that is mandated by MLS. Moving forward, OCSC will align themselves with other MLS clubs by providing Development Academy (DA) players with funding for registration, travel and uniform costs."
I disagree that this isn't news. Free soccer for DA in Orlando is news. If you are in the DA program, and were paying, then it is good news to you. If you are a player that would like to try out for DA but aren't able to afford it, then it is good news to you. Why wouldn't OCYS want to get this information out? They want everyone to know that it is free, so that people who couldn't previously afford it can now consider trying out. That expands their potential pool of players and should increase the quality of the players. Did you expect them to keep it as a big secret?

That is one of the reasons for the new fields - the county anticipates that with an MLS club there will be increased interest in soccer (in other words - all of the local clubs will benefit). Under OC's proposal, the new fields would have been available two nights out of the week, which would have increased field availability for all clubs. I also know that we have a problem with field availability. I was at Central Winds earlier this week, and there were several OCYS teams and FKK teams crammed together on the same field. Everyone is fighting for space, especially on lighted fields. If OCYS would have been successful with getting priority to the new fields, I would have wanted to see substantial penalties if they used them for anything other than these free programs. And I would have wanted to see penalties if the fields weren't being used at all, and some wording that would allow the city/county to release the fields to other clubs if OCYS wasn't using them. Realistically, if those rules would have been put in place, I would have expected maybe half of the fields to be used 2-3 nights a week and on Saturday, and the rest to be available for other clubs. And obviously, I wouldn't support OCYS getting priority access to any club's existing fields - not that that was ever really an issue.
I would have liked to have seen the OC program being a combination of programs at local schools and programs at the new fields. An after school program would be best for many of these kids, but there are also some who will be able to make it to a local field in the evening. Many of these kids have very difficult circumstances - it would be nice to give them a chance to play on a decent field. We'll have to see how that works out.
I also realize that families from other clubs helped OC get MLS. When I go to games, I see kids wearing uniforms from every club in the area. I hope to continue to see that in the future - not because it is good for OC, but because it is good for the kids.
" Everyone is fighting for space, especially on lighted fields."
And that, friends is the heart of the matter. OCYS has 12 fields that it can't use at night unless they spend a few 100 grand. They want taxpayers to provide lighted fields and they want guaranteed prime time use for THEIR members.
Phil and Greg got caught being too clever. They thought the rubes of Orange County wouldn't catch wise to the scheme. Thank goodness there's people watching with the guts to say something.

Meaning: if you can afford to have your kid play competitive soccer you are too educated to act like you don't know what's going on behind the scenes so stop your B.S. OCYS was trying to muscle these clubs out. Those clubs organized and brought the details that OCYS tried to paint pretty to the City and exposed them which is why OCYS withdrew the parks request before the City told them to go f--k themselves.
Stop assuming everyone is stupid OCYS. Both Club and parents are starting to look like snobs. Oh wait, I forgot. You are!

You people are liars.
(1) You don't care about any kids except the ones that are the ones of board members.
(2) You are trying to circumvent the FYSA rules when you know them as well as anybody else. Did you tell the City about these rules BEFORE or INCLUDE that in your proposal.? of course not.

Watch how fast that "Coalition" starts burying each other now!!!!! I am so glad I'm almost done with this part of my life.
The saddest part is 90% of the people in control anywhere are just there because they have a personal agenda and the other 10% get eaten alive by that agenda. Everyone else in the club not sucking up is just there to show up and play soccer. They couldn't care less about the politics and betrayals.
It is a sad day when someone like Rawlins is least slimiest person in the bunch.
